Not all people are called to be a Moses or a Saint Paul, but each of us can speak out against injustices in our society. We can live the teachings of Jesus in our families and in the workplace. We can be the messenger of God’s love and forgiveness to someone whom no one else can reach. Such service can bring us great joy!

MINISTRY MINUTES
Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
“If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.” Hardening of the heart may be bitterness, pessimism or simply tuning the love and goodness from God out of your life. In Mark’s Gospel reading 1:21-28, Jesus teaches with such authority that he commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him. When we carry negativity or let the negativity of others draw us in, our hearts gradually harden in order to protect ourselves from being harmed. However, this shield of protection that we place around our hearts can become so rigid that happiness, hopefulness, and love are also unable to penetrate the barrier that has been created. According to Pope Francis, we fight daily spiritual battles against sadness, bitterness, and pessimism. Jesus not only has the authority to help us, He has a great desire to be the one who saves. We only need keep our hearts soft so that we can hear and know love.
Sign–Up for our Parish Living the Eucharist Lenten Scripture Study. You have nine different groups and 7 different days to choose from -including an online group. Group Leaders will be in the lobby of the church after all the Masses this weekend. Cost for materials is only $6.00. Spend some time listening, reflecting, and praying with the Word of God this Lent!
Bona thanks to all who attended, served, and helped to lead St. Boniface’s first Koinonia. The Love of Christ was abundant and overflowing. Ask anyone who attended. We hope to have the next Koinonia STBK2 in early fall!

I was Eyes to the Blind and Feet to the Lame (Job 29:15)
In his message for the 23rd World Day of the Sick (Feb11, 2015); our Holy Father invites us to reflect on this phrase from the Book of Job and to do so from the perspective of what he calls “sapientia cordis” - the wisdom of the heart. He defines wisdom by quoting the Letter of James who wrote that wisdom is “pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits without uncertainty or insincerity.” Our Holy Father goes on to say that this wisdom of the heart means serving our brothers and sisters with the same effort that Job gave to the poor, the orphans, and the widows that sought his help.
He says that wisdom of the heart means being with our brothers and sisters. Time spent with the sick is holy time and Pope Francis quotes Jesus “I am among you as one who serves.” He says that wisdom of the heart means going forth from ourselves towards our brothers and sisters. Here he recognizes the tug of being caught up in so many things that we do not find time to give ourselves freely in the care of others. Pope Francis insists that this should be a high priority among our competing priorities because it grows from the missionary nature of our Church.
In a different way he says that wisdom of the heart means showing solidarity with the sick while not judging them. He returns to the Book of Job to remind us that even while remaining at his side, Job’s friends judged him and ascribed his sickness to a punishment from God for his sins. Our Holy Father says that true charity is a sharing which does not judge. Innocent suffering is the sharing of Jesus’ suffering on the cross, who suffered for us without holding anything back.
Pope Francis closes his message by entrusting the World Day of the Sick to the protection of Mary and asks her to intercede for all the sick and those who care for the sick. He asks her to help us cultivate true wisdom of the heart.
There are many in our parish who minister to the sick by visiting them with Holy Communion. There are many in our parish who care for sick family members in their homes or in nursing homes. There are many among us who work at all hours of every day to watch over our loved ones at hospitals and nursing homes. Let us keep everyone who cares for the sick in our prayers. Let us ask God to show us the wisdom of our own heart in what we should be doing to help care for the sick. ~ Deacon Dan
Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend In today’s second reading St Paul talks about the fact that married couples have to deal with the anxieties of the world. Sometimes those stresses can really have a negative impact on our marriages. Get away from all those worldly anxieties and take time to just focus on God and each other by making a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is February 6 – 8. To register or for more information call 314-469-7317 or go online to www.stl-wwme.org.

Stewardship Do Your Children See You Give?
Every parent wants to raise children who share and give
generously. When our children someday meet God face
to face, we want to know that they will hear Jesus say to
them the same words the master said to those who used
their talents wisely, “Well done, my good and faithful
servant...Come, share your master’s joy.” (Matt 25:21)
However, raising a generous child is a challenge in a
society that constantly teaches children to want more
and more things for themselves. One of the key factors
in teaching children to be generous is to let them see
you giving. After all, children mimic what they see, not
what they hear.
Today many donations to the parish Offertory may be
made electronically, monthly, quarterly, or via mail.
Thus, children may never actually see their parents give.
A child who never sees a parent place an envelope in
the Offertory could grow up thinking, “My parents never
gave any support to the Church. Why should I?”
Therefore, it is important that parents talk with children
about the charitable gifts the family makes. If you
would like to increase your giving, you might even ask
your kids about ways the family budget could be
adjusted so that there is more to share with God. Their
suggestions might surprise you!

LITURGICAL MINISTERS FOR NEXT WEEKEND —FEBRUARY 7-8, 2015
Edwardsville Knights of Columbus 2nd Annual FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE Saturday, February 21, 2015
Our 2nd annual Father-Daughter Dance will be SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21 (note the new date) from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Last year we had an incredible turnout, and we hope for even more people this year. No age limitations, so Fathers of all ages, bring your daughters of all ages to enjoy a special night out. This year's theme is "Daddy's Little Sweetheart". We will be serving a spaghetti & meatball dinner with salad. We will have flowers for each young lady, a professional photographer, and lots of dancing. This is a formal event:
ladies should wear a dress, and gentlemen should wear shirt & tie and/or sport coat.
For the older Dads, have you danced with your daughter since her wedding day? Then bring her to this event. She will love the chance to dance with her Dad again, no matter how old she is. For the younger dads, a dress-up night out with Dad will be a night that those young ladies will treasure forever. Mine still talk about it 10 years later. Tickets are $20/couple, $25 if more than one daughter. Reservations should be made by Feb. 15. Please contact Scott Bayless at [email protected], for more information and/or to reserve your seats now to make sure you get a spot.!
