A STORY OF FASHION 2014

San Joaquin Delta College, Fashion Program SUPPORT EDUCATION, CULTURE & CREATIVITY!

Would you like to help to foster and promote creative arts and business

in the community?

Would you partner with education to promote the good in this community and

encourage more events that boost the reputation of all that is good?

Education and the arts have suffered most through decisions made about funding to education and our community

colleges. But, it has been proven that arts and education that benefit local economies most in creating culture,

growth and consumer motivations for supporting local endeavors. They are, however, the most misunderstood

factors in education. The Fashion Program boasts one of San Joaquin Delta College’s most successful programs,

but also one of its least funded. Therefore, it has been left to the students to raise funds for their own academic

activities, including field trips, special events, fashion shows and even the program’s marketing and outreach. And, it

is up to those who care about the program to reach out for assistance to keep it thriving on the Delta College

campus!

We manage to do a LOT with very little! The Fashion Program is incredibly successful, preparing students for realistic

and successful careers in the fashion industry and it is reflected in the success of its students who have graduated

and are now doing amazing things! The program has grown over the past twenty years into a model program for the

community college system. Delta’s Fashion Program has had great success in the past twenty years and has

produced some incredible success stories! Stockton can be proud of the fact that such a thriving and respected

program exists in its community.

We hope you will want to keep vibrant programs alive and well in San Joaquin County, especially those that promote

and attract culture and art!

Unlike many other so called “fashion weeks” and “fashion events,” the Fashion Program produces events with no

funding support from the college and working as a completely NOT-FOR-PROFIT 501 C(3) foundation. This sets

us apart from other fashion events in the region who have no such standing, where any donation to our

foundation is completely tax deductible and is providing NO administrative or salary funding, but 100% funding

towards the endeavored event.

Collection Design Shows

The Collection Design Show is in its 7th year. The show is kept fresh and exciting through a constantly changing venue, each

year, moving to a new location, creating a different vibe with each environment and using local talent and discovering new

talent. Our shows have attracted as large an audience as 1000 people in an outdoor showcase under the stars, to an intimate

and exclusive 200-person event, with wine and appetizers and swag bags. Our shows have rivaled the best NY show,

The shows feature the amazing design talent of the students in the Collection Design class and the organizational and

marketing skills of the students in the Fashion Event Production class.

The Collection Design students spend 12 weeks designing and producing their collection of at least 6 looks, constructing all of

the garments from scratch and fitting them to their models.

The Event Production class works during those same weeks, recruiting models and holding workshops and rehearsals for the

models, designing, producing and distributing all of the marketing for the show and coordinating every aspect from start to

finish. They are also responsible for securing show sponsors to help offset the cost, as the college does not provide for this

event or any in the department. We do, however, have an amazingly supportive community and industry and we’d love to

welcome you as a part of that community we call “Friends of Fashion.”

2014 MODELS: The Fashion Program prides itself on the model talent it discovers and grooms. Every model in the show volunteers their time to be a part of something great! They are obligated to hours of rehearsals and workshops, along with the hours of the show. Many come right from our fashion classes and from the quad and cafeteria at Delta. The production students sometimes call themselves “model hunters” as they are constantly on the look out for men and women who will fit the designers’ collections and aesthetics and who have the personality to be a part of the show.

FRIENDS OF FASHION SPONSORSHIPS

The Fashion Program at Delta College is fortunate to have such an incredible list of supporters. The students and faculty are grateful to all

sponsors who support our shows financially, as well as those who provide valuable resources to the students. Sponsor support reflects a

shared commitment to helping Delta’s Fashion Program shape the fashion designers of the future. Without such support, the annual

Sponsors are invited to attend the exclusive VIP Friends of Fashion reception prior to the show. The reception allows sponsors the

opportunity to network with each other and with community leaders and business owners. The event is well supported by some of the

community’s leaders in government, education, entertainment and business, as well as industry leaders in fashion and design.

The Designers Collection show is NOT funded by the college or any grants associated with the college. It is the Fashion Foundation that is

the revenue source – these are funds that have been raised by the students and faculty in the Fashion Program. The Foundation is a non-

WE HAVE AMAZING FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS!

Designers Collection Show would neither be possible, nor as glamorous and successful as it is.

The Foundation is a non-

profit 501 C(3) entity and all donations are tax deductible. All funds raised are used solely for

Designers Collection Show would neither be possible, nor as glamorous and successful as it is.

The Foundation is a non-

profit 501 C(3) entity and all donations are tax deductible. All funds raised are used solely for
