As many of you know, June 11 th will be our last Sunday serving as the clergy family of Villa Rica FUMC. It has been an honor to serve as your pastor. There is plenty of time for farewells, so I’m not going to attempt that difficult endeavor at this time. Instead, I’m going to introduce you to your new pastor, my friend, the Reverend Erik Mays. Erik comes to us from Senoia United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Lindsey, have two girls, Addie Grace and Avery, and will be an instant blessing to Villa Rica First UMC and the community. Previous ministerial offices include: Associate Pastor of Marietta First UMC from 2011-2013, Minister to Youth of Belin Memorial UMC in Murrells Inlet, SC from 2009- 2011, and Youth Minister of Covington First UMC from 2006-2009. Rev. Mays is an ordained elder in full connection in the North Georgia Conference. Rev. Mays was reared in Due West UMC in Marietta, Georgia. He earned two undergraduate degrees; one from Reinhardt College in Liberal Arts, and a second one from LaGrange College in Religion and Philosophy. In 2009, he obtained his Master of Divinity degree from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. Rev. Mays considers his passions in ministry to be helping connect people to their own ministries within the life of the local church/community, and revitalizing the local church for faithful and fruitful transformation through Jesus Christ. In addition to having a decade of experience in youth ministry, Rev. Mays has served on over 20 short term mission trips; some in the U.S. and some in places such as Mexico (when he met his wife), Poland, Venezuela, Peru, and Guatemala. Rev. Mays has served on the LaGrange District Strategic Growth Team and is currently serving on the LaGrange District Committee on Ordained Ministry (dcom). In addition, he serves as a candidacy mentor for those discerning a call into ministry. In May 2015, Rev. Mays completed the Royce and Jane Reynolds Program in Church Leadership with the Western North Carolina Conference of the UMC and the Center for Creative Leadership. He is also a mentor with Coweta County Schools. I am very excited about Erik continuing the work that Christ has begun in us. He will be an excellent servant leader that you will grow to love and respect. In the hollow of His Hand, Derek Villa Rica First United Methodist Church April, 2017 A Time of Transition

As many of you know, June 11th will be our last Sunday serving as the clergy family of Villa Rica FUMC. It has been an honor

to serve as your pastor. There is plenty of time for farewells, so I’m not going to attempt that difficult endeavor at this time.

Instead, I’m going to introduce you to your new pastor, my friend, the Reverend Erik Mays.

Erik comes to us from Senoia United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Lindsey, have two girls, Addie Grace and Avery,

and will be an instant blessing to Villa Rica First UMC and the community. Previous ministerial offices include: Associate

Pastor of Marietta First UMC from 2011-2013, Minister to Youth of Belin Memorial UMC in Murrells Inlet, SC from 2009-

2011, and Youth Minister of Covington First UMC from 2006-2009. Rev. Mays is an ordained elder in full connection in the

North Georgia Conference.

Rev. Mays was reared in Due West UMC in Marietta, Georgia. He earned two undergraduate degrees; one from Reinhardt

College in Liberal Arts, and a second one from LaGrange College in Religion and Philosophy. In 2009, he obtained his Master

of Divinity degree from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. Rev. Mays considers his passions in ministry to be

helping connect people to their own ministries within the life of the local church/community, and revitalizing the local church

for faithful and fruitful transformation through Jesus Christ. In addition to having a decade of experience in youth ministry,

Rev. Mays has served on over 20 short term mission trips; some in the U.S. and some in places such as Mexico (when he met

his wife), Poland, Venezuela, Peru, and Guatemala.

Rev. Mays has served on the LaGrange District Strategic Growth Team and is currently serving on the LaGrange District

Committee on Ordained Ministry (dcom). In addition, he serves as a candidacy mentor for those discerning a call into

ministry. In May 2015, Rev. Mays completed the Royce and Jane Reynolds Program in Church Leadership with the Western

North Carolina Conference of the UMC and the Center for Creative Leadership. He is also a mentor with Coweta County

Schools.

I am very excited about Erik continuing the work that Christ has begun in us. He will be an excellent servant leader that you

will grow to love and respect.

In the hollow of His Hand,

Derek
