A TYPOLOGY OF THE THEORETICAL APPROACHES OF LANDSCAPE

A theoretical character problems series, about the projectuals disciplines and particularly in the Landscape Architecture, give rise to certain dysfunctions that are shown, in educational practice and the professional activity. This is concluded, through the analysis of the speech that governs the proyectual and speculative activities, in the field of the Landscape Architecture, and that is shown in the intervention projects, in theoretical texts or in the own conception of the plans of study.

Among such dysfunctions they are emphasized:

A. The diversity of ways to understand what we call Theory of the Landscape Architecture and their-condition of distance with regard to the practice.

B. The assumption of a universal character in some of the hypothesis on which we found ourcom-prehension and action on the landscape.

C. The difficulty to recognize the landscape spe-cificity of the interpretations or interventions that are carry out in name of the discipline.

From this observation, inherent to the situation of the Theory of the Landscape Architecture, we ha-ve found appropriate to propose some resources for the development of it, particularly, and of the disciplines proyectuales in general.

The product of the action of the projectuals disci-plines, beyond the intervention in the physical world, is generator of subjectivity, of the notion to inhabit, aspects that are likewise inherent in the sustainability. This makes necessary a theoretical development, that permits to question critically the methodological resources we handle and the intervention criteria that we assume.

In this sense, we understand fundamental the identification of the hypothesis involved in our speculation, as in our professional practices, the-refore in them, is the foundation of the theoretical system in which we support us.

We propose a typology of theoretical approa-ches, that permit us to put the hypothesis before diverse perspectives. In this way we characteri-ze the possible theoretical approaches in: ontolo-gical, methodological, ethical and “of field”.

We support that the theory of the Landscape Ar-chitecture like the others projectuals disciplines, should be inherent in a geopolitical, social and cultural context. The substantial importance of the Landscape

Architecture is that, in its object, this the human being included. A contextualized Landscape Ar-chitecture

theory, must conceive the natural landscape as a territorial subjectivity, like the not yet globalized dimension ,of the inhabitable reality; the last refu-ge of the cultural identity, and because of this, the intervention in landscape, is constituted in vehicle of the intervention in the human subjecti-vity.
