A VERY WARM WELCOMETHE MOST REVEREND ROBERT J. BRENNAN
12th Bishop of the Diocese of ColumbusInstalled March 29, 2019
March 31, 2019 Fourth Sunday of Lent
The Diocese of Columbus welcomed Bishop Robert J. Brennan as its 12th Bishop in an installation held at St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus on Friday, March 29, 2019. His appointment was formally announced on January 31, 2019, by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, papal nuncio to the United States.
Bishop Brennan was born on June 7, 1962 to Robert and Patricia in the Bronx, New York. The oldest of five children, Bishop Brennan has two brothers and two sisters and 14 nieces and nephews. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Saint John’s University, Queens, New York, studied for the priesthood at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, New York, and was ordained on May 27, 1989 by Bishop John R. McGann. On May 27, 1996, then Father Brennan was named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II with the title of Monsignor and in 2002, Reverend Monsignor Brennan was named vicar general and moderator of the curia for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
Bishop Brennan has vast administrative experience and has served on several diocesan boards including the Directors for Catholic Health Services of Long Island and the Bishop’s Advisory Committee for Catholic Education. He is bilingual and plans to continue his work with the Latino community. Vocations will be another important focus for him.
We offer Bishop Brennan our prayers as he begins his work as the shepherd of the Diocese of Columbus. May Christ walk with him daily as he works to lead us to a richer and deeper faith.
