Popeye, como quase todos conhecem, é um personagem clássico dos quadrinhos, criado por E.C.Segar em 17 de janeiro de 1929, portanto, completando 85 anos, e adaptado para desenhos animados em 1933 pelos irmãos Dave e Max Fleischer. É um marinheiro carismático que está sempre tentando proteger sua namorada Olívia Palito, das garras de seu inimigo Brutus. Quando come espinafre, Popeye fica forte e confiante, podendo vencer qualquer desafio, tendo sua força equiparada e superior até ao poderoso Superman. Tem até uma vila em homenagem a ele: a Popeye Village, também conhecida como Sweethaven Village, é um grupo de rústicos e em ruínas edifícios de madeira localizados em Anchor Bay, no canto noroeste do Mediterrâneo, na ilha de Malta. Foi construído como um set de filmagem para a produção de 1980 - live-action - característica musical do filme Popeye, produzido pela Paramount Pictures e Walt Disney Productions e estrelado por Robin Williams. Popeye Village, also known as Sweethaven Village, is a group of rustic and ramshackle wooden buildings located at Anchor Bay in the north-west corner of the Mediterranean island of Malta, two miles from the village of Mellieħa.It was built as a film set for the production of the 1980 live-action musical feature film Popeye, produced by Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions and starring Robin Williams. Today it is open to the public as an open-air museum and family entertainment complex
Popeye Village is open to the public seven days a week and although the film had mixed reviews, remains a popular tourist attraction

The prickly pear (Opuntia)
Opuntia (Opuntia ficus-indica)
Opuntia is a genus in the cactus family, Cactaceae. The most common culinary species is the Indian fig opuntia (O. ficus-indica). Most culinary uses of the term "prickly pear" refer to this species. Prickly pears are also known as tuna (fruit) or nopal (paddle, plural nopales) from the Nahuatl word nōpalli for the pads, or nostle, from the Nahuatl word nōchtli for the fruit; or paddle cactus.
The genus is named for the Ancient Greek city of Opus, where, according to Theophrastus, an edible plant grew which could be propagated by rooting its leaves
Opuntia littoralis was introduced to Mediterranean area long ago and flourishes in its mild climate, such as in the south of France, southern Italy, and Sicily where it is a culinary speciality called ficurinnia.
The prickly pear also
grows in Malta where it is a
typical summer fruit and used to make the
popular liqueur, Bajtra.
