FOUR good reasons to get married during the winter. The idea of getting married during the winter might sound rather bold, if not outright grim. But winter weddings have quite a few upsides!

Here are just a few1. Lower costs – getting married in the winter will save

you money. How? For one, you’ll be purchasing your attire at a slow time of the year for merchants. What’s more florists, decorators and caterers may be more willing to negotiate.

2. Scheduling flexibility – it’ll be easier to secure reservations for your big day. Churches, reception halls, caterers and entertainers are all usually less busy during the winter.

3. Cosy memories – Treat your guests to the cosiest of weddings by serving them hot beverages by the fire or giving them warm blankets as a gift.

Winter weddings are both highly romantic and budget friendly.

DestinationTHREE tips to help you plan your destination wedding…Do you dream of saying “I do” to the love of your life barefoot in the warm sand? If so, know that getting married in paradise is relatively easy to do. Follow these three tips to plan an unforgettable ceremony in the sun.1. Determine your needs – first, decide what you want

and set your priorities. Brainstorm with your partner about your ideal destinations and discuss when you’d like to hold the ceremony. Draw up your guest list and establish a firm budget to avoid getting carried away.

2. Call on an expert – a travel agent can give you the inside scoop on the best deals and destinations for your special day. Thanks to their expertise, the agent will

make recommendations based on your needs, your budget and your expectations. Most beach resorts offer all-inclusive wedding packages. If that’s something you’d be interested in, ask your agent for details.

3. Send out ‘save the date’ cards as soon as you’ve settled on a wedding date. The earlier you inform your guests about your plans, the better. Aim for at least six months’ notice to allow your guests to prepare for the trip. Follow-up the ‘save the date’ with the official wedding invite.

If some of your friends or family members can’t make it to your wedding destination, plan a celebration with them when you get home.

WHEN it comes to wedding gifts, things can become uncomfortable. You may have a specific idea of what you would like as a gift from your guests, whether that be money towards a home, kitchen appliances or honeymoon assistance. Keep in mind that everyone has a different idea of what is acceptable when it comes to gifting, so the safest way to cover all bases is to offer all options.

Gift registrySome people like to give a physical gift. These are the types of people who thrive on shopping and selecting a gift that will be kept as a reminder of their offering to you.

Wedding bank accountFor those who would like to gift something, but want to make sure their money doesn’t go to waste, transferring a monetary gift via a bank account can be a blessing and easy. This also ensures you and your other half

can use this monetary gift to put towards a home or a honeymoon which could be appreciated more than any physical gift. Asking for money can be awkward so if you are not sure how to then take a light-hearted spin and use a poem to accompany your invites.

The poemAs we’re getting married we thought it would be fun, to move into a brand-new home – we need to get it done. As wedding gifts are bulky and we’re a little short on space, some money would be the ideal gift to help us buy our place!ORWe haven’t included a gift list in our invite, as we have everything – it just wasn’t right … to ask for more things for the life we lead. What we’d really like is a good holiday indeed! If you were thinking of a gift for us to start our married life, some money would make us a very happy husband and wife!

WEDDING stationery is not as it used to be. These days with the technology available wedding invites and RSVPs are no longer written but emailed, texted or online. However, in this digital age it is important to remember that many of your guests will be refreshed by some snail mail and personalised words. Not only does the invitation give you the opportunity to capture the theme of your day but it will give you something to pop in your wedding scrapbook as a memory for years to come. There is plenty to consider when factoring in stationery and what you will need printed for the day. Choosing the right wedding stationery is important and you will no doubt want it to be perfect so ensure you spend plenty of time deciding on what style and design you want,

putting the time into detail will make the experience all the more special. The most important thing to remember is that your stationery, from invites to thank you cards, should have a similar look and design. Start with the invitation design and the rest will follow.Depending on your stationery budget you could consider hiring an expert to assist with design and printing, or there is the option to purchase a DIY kit and do it yourself, either way…remember to enjoy the process.

Bow or neckYOU popped the question, got a yes, and now you’re planning every detail of your wedding day. Future husband – it’s time to think about what you’ll be wearing when you exchange your vows! The dilemma is quite real – will you choose a neck tie or a bow tie to finish off your look? Here are some thoughts to help you make this important decision.

The bow tie - a classicYou can’t go wrong with the tradition bow tie. Match it with your tuxedo for a sophisticated look, or dare to be different with a velvet, knit or wooden bow tie that matches your wedding’s colour scheme. Show stopping looks guaranteed in any case. The neck tie - a relaxed option.

Thinking of getting married in a suit and tie? Go for it! The good old neck tie has become a popular option for the modern groom. From the distinguished traditional version to more avant-garde options, ties are available in endless patterns, colours and textures. You’re sure to find one that fits your personal style to a T.Have you decided yet? If you’re still on the fence, ask a stylist or knowledgeable salesperson for advice.Tying the knotChoosing your tie is the easy part, you’ll also need to learn how to knot it to perfection. If you aren’t comfortable with the idea of doing it yourself, ask your best man or your dad. They may have some tips for you – or they’ll simply take care of it for you on your big day.

HOW to plan a kid-friendly wedding…Are there children on your wedding day guest list? If so, make sure the event is as much fun for them as it is for the adults.Hire a babysitterEmploying an experienced babysitter will allow parents to fully enjoy the day themselves. A good rule of thumb is one babysitter per five children, but this will vary depending on ages.During the ceremonyDon’t seat all the children together. Instead, ask that parents keep their children close by to ensure they stay calm and quiet. You may also choose to ask youngsters to participate in the ceremony, for example by throwing rose petals or blowing bubbles as you walk down the aisle.During the receptionTake care of your young guests as soon as they arrive. If the reception is taking place outside, set up a bouncy castle or an obstacle course. Make-up artists, clowns and magicians are other options to keep little ones entertained.During the mealKeep children in mind when planning your menu.

They’ll prefer well known dishes like chicken or pasta. Also, request that they be served first – as to most, a five-course meal is a long boring affair. Help them stay patient by providing some toys or colouring books.During the eveningMake sure children have access to a quiet, comfortable spot where they can play while the adults finish their meal. You may also want to bring a few movies for the little ones to watch when it starts to get late.
