There’s no doubt about it, streaming is huge! In 2016, around 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single

day. Streaming is taking over the online world by storm and with sites such as Netflix retaining a subscriber base of 83 million, it’s clear why. Well, we can’t forget about our old friend, television. “Wait!” I hear you cry, “surely TV has perished at the hands of the overwhelming streaming servic-es?”. Well, let’s leave that to the producers of highly anticipated BBC Three documentary, “On-line Video- Is TV Dead?”, James Leatham and Lewis Corbett, to answer that for you. I asked a few questions to the video enthusi-asts.

I proceeded to ask why stream-ing was the topic of their project?

Lewis responded:

“Well, we wanted something new and interesting, and the idea of streaming was our best candi-date. It focuses on very current affairs and, with so many stream-ing apps and websites available, we’re spoilt for choice”

More personal, I question them on their own streaming habbits.

James looks avidly towards his friend, almost laughing at him: “I don’t know about him but I use a them a lot for sure!” Lewis laughs and responds: “It’s like a bloody addiction! A little bit sad really”, causing the whole room to burst out laughing.

New to the genre, I begin to question the pair’s newborn ex-

perience in the field and how dif-ficult it truly is to get a firm grasp on what’s required. Not like it was a huge issue for them, evidently.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s really not easy. We underestimated the work needed to get things like back-ground footage and narrations”. “Thank God we’re a patient bunch!” James adds. They con-tinue to explain the arduous tasks they faced over production- “One of the hardest challenges we had was organising interviews”. Lewis nods- “there were experts who dropped out of their appointments last minute; it was really disheart-ening”.

What an insight!Listen up ladies and gents, set your alarms to tune in to this fabu-lous project on BBC Three Online from the 26th of January.

“Online Video- Is TV Dead?” shines a light on some of the issues that TV faces up against its worthy counterpart, online streaming. RadioTimes’ Sam Bethune jumped at the opportunity to speak to leading producers James Leatham

and Lewis Corbett about their ground-breaking documentary, airing on BBC Three Online from Saturday the 26th January.

“It’s like a bloody...

ADDICTION!”
