How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

Research• I used YouTube to research other different Music Videos made by other Media

students. This is probably the piece of software I am most comfortable using because it is easy to use and simplistic.

• I used Blogger to note down my research about Music Videos in blog posts, for example, Media theories like Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze. Other than generally writing up the blog posts, Blogger can be quite difficult to use when, for example, trying to insert a picture into the post and position it the way I want to and it sometimes glitches.

• I used an Apple Mac to use the different software I needed to research Music Videos. I find Macs quite difficult to use mainly because of how different they are from Windows computers (however I have gotten rather used to it) and the mouse they use so I decide to use a different mouse when I can.

Research• I used Popplet for my research on my two possible songs for my Music Video,

“Home” by Gabrielle Aplin and “Girl in the War” by Josh Ritter. I like using Popplet as it is easy to use and it’s rather cute.

• I used Vimeo for uploading my animatic of “The Pretender” by Foo Fighters, as an alternative to YouTube. While it is a rather good alternative to YouTube, I still prefer to use YouTube as it is more likely that the videos will play properly and the videos will upload quicker (the animatic took a long time to upload).

• I used SlideShare for uploading certain informative PowerPoint presentations and embedding them onto my blog on Blogger. I found embedding SlideShare presentations rather simplistic so I had no problem using it.

Planning• I used YouTube in this stage as well for comparing the style of my

Music Video with the music video of “This is An Emergency” by The Pigeon Detectives. I found finding and embedding the video into my blog on Blogger easy to manage.

• I also used Blogger in this stage for noting down my production diary for each day we filmed and edited the Music Video and for posting the Production documents. I found Blogger rather useful in keeping track of this information.

• I also used the Apple Mac for using the different software needed for the planning stage.

Construction• We used a Digital Camera Recorder to capture the footage for the Music Video. Using the

camera recorder was easy and simplistic and it also occasionally took pictures automatically that we later used in our Digipak and Magazine Advert.

• We used the Tripod to keep the footage we captured with the digital camera steady and focused. The Tripod was easy to use and rather lightweight.

• We used Adobe Premier Pro to edit together the footage we captured on the digital camera to create the Music Video. Adobe Premier Pro is different from Final Cut Express but I eventually learned how to use it properly and easily. However, there are still many functions that I don’t how to use or probably don’t know about.

• We used an Apple Mac to access the software needed to create the Music Video, Digipak and Magazine Advert.

• We used a Still Camera to take still pictures for our Digipak and Magazine Advert. It’s a simplistic camera to use so there were no problems using it.

Construction• We used Adobe Photoshop to create the Digipak and Magazine Advert that accompanies the Music

Video. It can be rather difficult and frustrating to use at times but I could manage eventually after using the program for a while.

• We used the website dafont.com to download the font “CM Dragon Tattoo” for the Digipak and Magazine Advert. The website is easy to use and rather straightforward and offers many really creative fonts.

• We used Blogger to keep track of the construction stage of our coursework and to upload our finished Music Video, Digipak and Magazine Advert.

• We used YouTube to upload the Music Video once it was finished and embed it into our blogs on Blogger. Uploading and embedding videos is much easier, simpler and faster on YouTube than with other video websites like Vimeo.

• We used our Mobile Phones to keep in touch about our filming and editing days. I almost didn’t think about mentioning this in this evaluation because of how basic and everyday it seemed to me but, now that I think about it, it really helped me a lot with my coursework.

Evaluation• I used Blogger to upload each of the four coursework

evaluation questions. I also used it for the third evaluation question about audience feedback.

• I used Prezi for the first evaluation question about genre conventions in Music Videos. Prezi looks complex but it is actually rather simplistic and easy to use and is really creative.

• I used Popplet for the second evaluation question about the effectiveness of the Music Video, Digipak and Magazine Advert.

Evaluation• I used Microsoft PowerPoint for the fourth evaluation question about the

different technologies we used throughout the coursework. PowerPoint is a piece of software I am already familiar with so using it wasn’t a problem to me.

• I used SlideShare to upload the above-mentioned PowerPoint presentation and embed it onto my blog on Blogger. Like with embedding existing presentations onto my blog, it was also simplistic uploading presentations that I had made myself onto the website.

• I used Google Images to get the images used in this presentation. The Google search engine is simple to use so I had no problem finding these pictures with it.
