KevinMasel, 9, likes building withLego. He has plenty at home.“I like how there’s the different piec-
es and the different sets you can build,”said Kevin, aWinchester Elementa-ry fourth-grader. He was among kids infirst through fifth grades at a Lego pro-gramWednesday, Jan. 25, at the North-ville District Library. He’s had a few Lego “incidents” at
home: “We had a few disasters and itwas all over the house a few times,” saidKevin, who prior to the library sessionwasn’t sure what he’d build.“A car” appealed to Steven Aron, 7,
a Moraine Elementary second-graderalso waiting for the start time. He alsolikes to build Lego airplanes, and has anample supply of Lego at home. The library has done Lego programs
for kids in the past, saidMary Brissette, children’s librarian.“We’ll put them on display in the youth
department,” she said of themore orless hand-sized creations, marked witheach child’s name.
“It’s something that kids enjoy,” Bris-sette said. “We wanted them to enjoythe Legos in the library.”The library provided a variety of Lego
shapes and colors for the 25 kids reg-istered, who had up to an hour to buildtheir creations.Brissette hadn’t heard of the recent
flap about pastel Legomarketed to girls:“I think Legos are growing up in diver-sity,” she said with a smile.Visitors to the library in the past
have been impressed with the creativ-ity shown by Northville kids with Legodesigns. “It’s just a fun thing, to get outof the house,” said Brissette. “A niceavenue.”During the hour, some children
worked intently on their own, while oth-ers sought advice from the other kids. The group had plenty of time— butonly one creation per child could be dis-played at the end.“They can fiddle around with it as
much as they want,” said Brissette, put-ting names on small tags with each cre-ation.
