री त क छु याँ शु हो ग ।ले कन री त खुश नह । उसे छु याँपस द नह , उसे तो रोज़ कूलजाना पस द है। कूल म री त केब त सारे दो त ह। घर पर उसकेसाथ खेलने वाला कोई नह है।

री त के पापा ह, जो उसे खलौनेऔर कताब लाकर देते ह। पापाउसे कहा नयाँ भी सुनाते ह। री तको यह भी पस द है। उसके पापारोज सुबह योगा करते ह। री त भीउनक नकल करती है। इसम उसेमज़ा आता है।

री त क म मी क वता लखती है और क यूटर परकाम करती है। री त को म मी के साथ क यूटरदेखना पसंद है। उसे म मी का फूला पेट छूना भी पसंदहै। म मी का पेट बड़ा और गोल हो रहा है य क उसमएक न हा ब चा है।

“एक छोटा भाई या बहन ज द ही तु हारे साथखेलेगा,” म मी कहती है। री त को यह बात अ छलगती है ले कन अभी तो घर पर उसके साथ खेलनेवाला कोई नह । री त के दो त उस के घर से काफ़ ररहते ह।

एक शाम उसके दरवाज़े क घंट बजी। उनके पड़ोसीदास अंकल अपने हाथ म काले रंग का पजड़ा लएखड़े थे। पजड़े म एक हरे रंग का तोता था।

“हम सरे शहर जा रहे ह,”दास अंकल बोले, ” याआप हमारे मठु को रखना चाहग? वह बात भी करलेता है!”

पापा और म मी ने एक सरे क ओर देखा। उ हप य को पजड़े म ब द रखना ब कुल पस द नह ।ले कन री त ब त खुश थी, “हाँ अंकल!” वह मु कानबखेरती ई बोली। और इस तरह मठु री त का नया

दो त बन गया।

“ह’लो मठु!” री त कहती है।

मठु उसे देखता है। “ह’लो!” वहकहता है “ह’लो!”

री त हैरान होती है। “तु हारा नामया है?” वह पूछती है।

“ह’लो!” मठु कहता है।

“नह ,” री त कहती है, “तु हारानाम मठु है। बोलो ‘ मठु’।”

“ह’लो!” मठु कहता है।

“नह ! नह !” री त परेशान होती कहती है, “चलो, फरको शश कर! मेरा नाम री त है। “ मठु, यान से सुनो!मेरा नाम री त है। मेरा नाम या है?”

“ह’लो!” मठु कहता है।

“नह !” री त हँसती है। “ मठु, तुम ब त नटखट हो!”

री त हर रोज़ मठु को नए श द सखाने क को शशकरती है। “बोलो पा-पा। बोलो म-मी। बोलो री- त।“

पर मठु सफ़ कहता है, “ह’लो!”

एक दन म मी री त को उसकेदो त के ज म दन क पाट म शहरके बाहर ले गई। री त इतनेदन बाद अपने सभी दो त सेमल कर ब त खुश ई। उन लोग

ने खूब धमाचौकड़ी मचाई। घरलौटते ए री त दो त के ज म दनक पाट से मठु के लए केक काएक टुकड़ा लाई।

ले कन मठु कहाँ है?

“म मी, मठु कहाँ है?” एक सेसरे कमरे म दौड़ती ई री त

च लाई।

“मुझे नह पता”, म मी कहती है,“ले कन परेशान मत हो! हम उसेढँूढ लगे।“

तभी पापा अ दर आए, हाथ म मठुका पजड़ा लए।

“ह’लो!” मठु बोला।

“म तु हारे दो त को ताज़ा हवाखलाने पाक ले गया था।“ पापा

बोले।

री त क जान म जान आई। उसनेमठु को ज म दन का केक दया

ले कन उसे वह पस द नह आया।

री त क छु यां ख म होने को थक एक दन हरे तोत का एक बड़ा

सा झु ड उसक खड़क के बाहरखड़े घने पेड़ पर आ बैठा। वे अपनीही बोली म एक- सरे से ब तयातेशोर मचा रहे थे।

री त ने मठु का पजड़ा खड़क केनज़द क रख दया ता क वह भीबाहर क रौनक देख सके। तोतक आवाज़ सुनकर मठु अपनेपजड़े म शोर मचाता, ऊपर से नीचे

कूदता, बार-बार अपने पंखफड़फड़ाने लगा। री त यह सब बड़ेयान से देख रही थी।

“ मठु! या ये तु हारे दो त ह?”उसने पूछा। ले कन मठु ने जवाबनह दया। हर बार क तरह ‘ह’लो’भी नह कहा। वह बस पेड़ पर बैठेतोत को देखता रहा।

तोते जतनी तेज़ी से आए थे, उतनीही तेज़ी से उड़कर चले गए।

“वे या कह रहे थे मठु?” री त नेपूछा।

“ह’लो!” मठु उदास होकर बोला,“ह’लो!”

री त क छु याँ आ खर ख म होग । आज कूल का पहला दनथा। कई दन बाद री त अपने सभीदो त और श क से मली।

आधी छु म वह अपने दो त केसाथ खुशी-खुशी खेल रही थी।खेल के मैदान के चार तरफ़ खड़ेबड़े-बड़े पेड़ पर प ी खेलते एचहचहा रहे थे।

री त कूल से घर प ँची तो देखाक मठु अपने पजड़े म चुपचाप

बैठा है।

“ह’लो, मठु!” वह धीरे से बोली।मठु ने उसक ओर देखा ले कन

कुछ बोला नह ।

री त ने अपना ब ता नीचे रखा।खड़क खोली। फर उसने पजड़े

का दरवाज़ा खोल दया।

“जाओ मठु!” वह बोली, “जाओ,अपने दो त को ढंूढो!”

मठु हैरानी से री त को देखता रहा। “जाओ मठु!’’ वह फर बोली।“अपने दो त को ढंूढो.....उड़जाओ!”

मठु पजड़े से बाहर नकला। मुड़कर री त को देखा। “ह’लो” कहकर उसने अपने पंख फैलाए... औरउड़ चला... अपने दो त म शा मलहोने के लए...।

आओ एक जीव को दो त बनाएँ

पालतू जीव क ज़ रत कसे है?कोई भी, जो एक यारा और स चा दो त चाहता हो, उसे एक पालतू जीव क ज़ रत है। जब तुम ख़ुद को अकेला और खोया

आ या ख़ुद म समटा और पागल महसूस करते हो, एक पालतू जीव तु हारे लए कुछ भी कर सकता है -- कुछ भी, जससे तु ह

खुशी मले। वह तु हारे साथ खेलेगा, अ छा महसूस कराएगा, तु ह कई ज़ री चीज़ समझाएगा और तु हारा जीवन इतनी म ती से

भर देगा, जो कभी ख म न हो। अब, यह कसे नह चा हए! क्या तुम उसका याल रख पाओगे?बेशक, पालतू जीव मज़ेदार होते ह, मगर उ ह घर लाने से पहले अ छ तरह सोच लो!

- या तु हारे म मी-पापा तु ह पालतू जीव रखने दगे?

- या तुम सचमुच एक पालतू जीव रखना चाहते हो? याद रखो क एक पालतू जीव क जीवन भर क ज़ मेदारी है। यह कोई

खलौना नह है जससे अगर उकता गए तो बदल लया।

- पालतू जीव को पेट भर खाने, पीने के लए साफ पानी, ायाम और ढेर सारे यार क ज़ रत है। उसे कई बात सखानी ह गी,

उसे डॉ टर (पशु च क सक) के पास ले जाना और नहलाना भी होगा। यानी, हर दन कुछ अ धक काम! या तु हारे पास इसके

लए समय है?

- अगर वह अपने पंज से गंदगी फैलाए या तु हारे पसंद दा जूत को चबा डाले तो या तुम उसे माफ़ कर सकोगे?

या म पालतू जीव रखने के लए सचमुच तैयार ?ँतु हारे सबसे अ छे दो त के पास एक पालतू जीव है और तुम चाहते हो क एक पालतू जीव तु हारे पास भी हो! इस लए तुम सोच

म होगे क कसे लेना चा हए - एक कु े, ब ली या फर एक चूहे को । एक पालतू जीव चुनने से पहले अपने आप से ये सारे

सवाल करो-

या मेरे पास एक पालतू जीव क देखभाल के लए समय है?कसी पालतू जीव को रखना एक बड़ी ज़ मेदारी है, चाहे वह उसे कुछ सखाने, खाना खलाने या सफ़ उसे यार करने क हो-

तु हारे पास अपने पालतू जीव पर खच करने के लए समय होना चा हए - ढेर सारा समय!

या मेरे घर म कसी पालतू जीव को रखने क जगह ह?ैछोटे पालतू जीव, जैसे - ब लय , मछ लय और प य - को छोटे-बड़े कसी भी घर म रखा जा सकता है, मगर कु को चार

तरफ़ दौड़ने और ायाम करने के लए अ धक जगह चा हए।

मुझे कस तरह का पालतू जीव चा हए?य द तु ह कोई ख़ास पालतू जीव चा हए तो तुम पशु के डॉ टर से या उन लोग से सलाह ले सकते हो ज होन वैसे जीव पाल

रखे ह। जानो क वे जीव या खाते ह और कैसा वहार करते ह? फर अ छ तरह सोच- वचार कर अपने लए पालतू जीव

चुनो।

या म एक पालतू जीव का खच उठा पाऊंगा?

सभी पालतू को भोजन और घर ज़ री है। फर, उसके शरीर क जाँच, ट का लगवाना और बीमार पड़ने पर उसके इलाज के लए

डॉ टर के पास ले जाना भी ज़ री है।

या घर पर पालतू का वागत होगा?

माना, तुम पशु से यार करते हो, मगर या प रवार के अ य लोग तु हारी भावना को समझगे? कसी पालतू जीव को घर लाने

से पहले तु ह घर के सभी लोग से बात कर उनक सहम त लेनी होगी।
