Andrews Academy Handbell Ensem-ble (Resound) is currently attending the annual RingFest clinic in Toledo, Ohio, which involves approximately fourteen SDA academy bell choirs from across the US (Oct. 24, - 27, 2018). This year, students will work two of the foremost handbell direc-tors and composers: clinicians Hart Morris and Bill Alexander. It does not get any better than to work and per-form with a living composer!

You won't want to miss the final con-cert! Please go to the following link to watch the livestream on Friday night, Oct. 27 at 7:30pm: http://www.toledofirstadventist.org

Last weekend, Oct. 19 - 20, 2018, was alumni weekend for Andrews Academy. Hundreds of alumni returned to remember the fun times at AA and to renew friendships, and deepen their friendship with Jesus. During Sabbath church current Silhouettes invited Silhouette Alumni to join them for special music and sang, “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross”.

The traditional Shydepoke flag football game of Alumni weekend occurred Saturday night. The female AA alum-ni and the female AA students game was won by the school 12 to 7. The alumni took an early lead in the game but then the school came from behind and won the game. The male AA alumni and the male AA students was a very exciting game with the school winning 30 to 8. Every-one had a lot of fun.

A big THANK YOU to numerous students… the vast majori-ty of students played their role in making Alumni Weekend a successful weekend and meaningful reunion to hundreds of alumni. Many students were involved in musical presenta-tions, a group of students ran children’s church for the many children of alumni, others collected offering, and many stu-dents were behind the scenes taking care of so many de-tails. Again, a big THANK YOU for your involvement in the weekend activities.

General Education Assemblies - Guidance Department

Periodically throughout the school year there are assemblies. They provide general education on various topics for the entire student body. This week Ms. Linda Sanford, AA guidance counselor, invit-ed Joyce Coffee to present an assembly on domestic violence, spe-cifically on teen dating violence. She began with a number of do-mestic violence statistics stating one in five high school students are victims. Too often young victims don’t tell anybody, it’s important to report to get help and to stop the violence. There are many factors that plays a role in how and why domestic violence happens. She then shard some signs of being abused or signs that you’re in an abusive relationship.

The Junior class would like to invite the senior class to the Junior Senior banquet, “Fire and Ice”, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. It is an AA tradition for the Juniors to host the Seniors for the JR. SR. Banquet. The junior class banquet committee has been meeting and planning for this banquet since this summer. Many fun ideas are set in motion for this fun evening. Please purchase tickets Tuesday Oct. 30 - Friday Nov 2 during lunch or after school. We are selling tickets for only $20. As you purchase your tickets you will be able to sign up for your table seating.

Andrews Academy science classes incorporates many had on labs during the classroom experience. In Chemistry classes they have been studying elements and during one of their labs they did the flame test to identify various elements. Physical Science class has recently been studying conservation of energy and they recently did an experiment to see how energy is conserved as it switched from potential to kinetic.

On Monday Mr. Scottie Baker spoke to the students about the archeologi-cal dig in Jordan that happened this past summer, encouraging student to participate in one this coming summer. One of the academy students un-covered an intact container from the dig site. Based on structures of ruins and various other pottery they are thinking this is from the “Iron I” age, dur-ing the period of the Judges. He then shared from first Samuel 17:40 about the account of David and Goliath and how he chose 5 smooth stones. When we read this in modern times we think of nice smooth stones to skip across water while at the beach. He held up what would have been a “smooth stone” from David’s era of time, a much larger stone and more rounded. As archeologists better understand eras of time we can have a deep and more accurate understanding of various Bibli-cal texts.

On Tuesday, Justin Flores shared 9 realities that students in high school are bound to encounter as they progress through the years. Realities such as "running away from your prob-lems makes them worse," and "things in high school aren't going to change just by you sitting and complaining" were just a couple of examples of truths that he shared with the students. Sometimes there will be challenges in terms of the need for change and/or how to deal with people we deem immature. By the grace of God, we will be able to overcome all of these conflicts.

Week of Chapels

Highlights At AA

On Wednesday, Joshua from AU who is observing Pastor Fergu-son’s classroom led in the worship. He shared AU’s mission statement of, “world changers”. By one definition this is a person who is passionate for a cause, uses support of others, accepts the small moments of progress, doesn’t make excuses, and rec-ognizes self worth. This is also true for Christian world chang-ers. He then asked why sometimes we are not world changers for God and then shared a text to encourage us to do the oppo-site: 1. Complacent (Rev. 12:1,2), 2. Not feel qualified (I Cor. 1:26-27), 3. The fear of the unknown and not having all the an-swers (Deut. 31:8). He encouraged us to: 1. step out of our com-fort zone and improve this world and 2. And pray that God will show you what you could do to change the world for Him.

Thursday the student pastors led out in questions and answers discussion. Such topics as identity and find-ing yourself. And then trying to restart, but then ending up in our old ways. Students share their ideas and then student pastors who have done a little preparing shared Scripture and their ideas. It was a great student discus-sion.
