Sorting and sequencing helps students to organize their thoughts for more complex writing.

Scavenger hunts provide opportunities for group

collaboration and to learn basic search skills. Allows students to learn more efficient research by

LESSON: THE ADVENTURER BLOG

Goals: Students will locate and gather resources on their chosen adventurer and begin to compile information using the worksheet provided. Students will use the information they collected about their adventurer to answer specific questions in their weekly blog posts.

Learning communication and technological skills leads to greater understanding. Taking information gathered during the research process and blogging about the most important information allows the students to not only learn the information for themselves, but to also take part in the teaching process as they teach their classmates about their adventurer.

FAIRY TALE LESSON Goals: Students will learn about the history and elements of fairy tales

and be able to identify these elements in a specific fairy tale Students will review the elements and history of fairy tales

paying specific attention to how different cultures tell the same story.

Students will choose a fairy tale to read and analyze. They will decide what are the most important elements and scenes in the story and use those choices to rewrite their fairy tale.

Northwood Books for Young Readers, Weekly Reader Early Learning Library Adventurer's Blog Kidblog.org- excellent blog hosting site that allows teachers to organize students

into classes. Students can see and comment on each others blogs, but the blog can be set to private so that no one can see the blog without a password. (this is a free service)

Microsoft Clip Art Gallery- an easy to use website that allows students to search for appropriately licensed images to use in their blogs.

Fairy Tales Windows Live Movie Maker- any movie making software can be used. iMovie,

Vimeo or Animoto could also be used. Beatpick.com- this is a database of available music that can be used free of

charge.
