In recent years, ABB – a $25 billion global technology group – acquired

the Bailey, Hartmann & Braun and Sensycon brands. Consolidating these

products under the ABB name has given us the unique ability to provide

both digital as well as conventional damper drive solutions. The result is a

comprehensive offering from ABB that is unsurpassed on the market today.

ABB Damper Drives

The worlds's mostcomprehensive offering

Welcome to the FamilyABB’s broad damper drive line consistentlydelivers quality, power and performance toa range of industries. With our strength inthe power utility market, ABB damper driveproducts are also ideally suited for a widerange of applications in other industries suchas pulp & paper and cement & metals. Forwindbox damper reliability to the exactcontrolling and speed of response requiredfor forced draft and induced draft dampers,ABB has the solution for your application.

Advanced Digital SolutionsABB harnesses the power of digital technologyto provide a number of features for flawlesscontrol and an array of diagnostic capabilities.

Diagnostic functions can be configuredto activate an alarm output or to provideself-diagnostic messages, which minimizesdowntime.

Damper drive commissioning is virtuallyworry-free. Contrac Electric ModulatingActuators promote quick, convenient settingof the zero and span in seconds, by usingeither the self-calibrating mode or by usinglocal up/down buttons. No mechanical stopsare required, and adjustment of the outputtorque can be electronically adjusted.

LP and UP Linear and Rotary ElectropneumaticActuators are readily calibrated and set up in amatter of minutes using the AUTOSTROKEfunction of the TZID-C.

Ready for the Future -Part of ABB’s FieldIT Suite

The damper drive line is a member of ABB’snew Field IT solutions suite. Field IT productsincorporate a Device Type Manager (DTM)into their design. This enables each device’sembedded intelligence to be utilized andintegrated into plant and business systems, enabling power utilities and other industriesto streamline work processes for lowerdeployment costs, better process/productquality, improved availability, reducedmaintenance costs, and greater throughput. As a subset of ABB’s comprehensive familyof Industrial IT solutions, Field IT providesthe opportunity to integrate Industrial ITthroughout the life cycle of your field devices.

Another important component of Field ITis the Field Device Tool (FDT). The primarygoal of the FDT concept is a plantwideconfiguration of DCS, fieldbus and fieldinstruments. Supported by DTM-embeddedfield devices, the FDT enables the engineeringsystem to handle field instruments likefunction blocks.

SMARTVISION, a Windows®-based singlemanagement software tool for all field devices,is the third tool supporting Field IT. Its modularstructure allows use as a stand-alone config-uration tool or for integration as an engineeringtool in a control system. SMARTVISION enablesthe transfer of application-specific device data, including calibration, commissioning, diagnostics, and maintenance. Its file management capabilitiesmake storing and downloading preconfiguredfiles possible.

Electropneumatic Damper The American Workhorse for 60 years - now with

Conventional - Linear Piston with AV

Introducing the Digital GenerationABB electropneumatic damper drives arethe culmination of heritage products – longrecognized as the industry standard – nowmarketed under the ABB name and designedwith ABB’s leading-edge digital technology.

Supporting Traditional SolutionsWhile ABB answers the demand for digitalsolutions, we remain committed to supplyingsolid solutions for the conventional world. Thus, it is no surprise that ABB has re-introduced the LP Linear Piston ActuatorAssemblies, and continues to offer our stan-dard UP Electro-pneumatic Rotary Actuators.

LP Linear PistonActuator AssembliesThe LP series of damper drives provide a cost-effective linear actuation solution that is ideallysuited for applications like windbox-dampers.The conventional assembly, which uses theAV Positioner series, offers a high temperatureoption up to 250°F. In comparison, our digitalsolution allows for operation up to 185°F, plusthe added features of digital control.

LP sizes range from a 2.5” diameter cylinderwith a 5” stroke (2.5”x 5”) up to a 12”x 14” unit.

UP Rotary Actuator AssembliesThe UP Electropneumatic Rotary Actuators(formerly sold under the Bailey name) haveserved as the American workhorse of damperdrives for nearly 60 years, a testament to theirhigh performance and durability. Mostrecently, ABB introduced the TZID-C SmartElectropneumatic Positioner. Modular indesign, the TZID-C is configurable and featuresdigital communications and diagnostics.

Digital - Linear Piston with TZID-C

Revitalize ExistingDamper Drives

ABB has developed upgrade kits for

converting existing UP and AC units from

conventional control to digital control. These upgrade kits include a TZID-C

(optional press-fit isolation valve manifold)

and mounting hardware designedespecially for the UP and AC designs. We

also have kits to upgrade existing AV and

AP positioners, whether mounted ondamper drives or valves.

We can also assist in upgrading damper

drives from other manufacturers. Pleasecontact our Valve Automation Instrument

technical support group for details.
