An island in the Indian Ocean off the southeast tip of India is known as Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. It has a population of 21 million. Sri Lanka is a multi-religious and

� ABB’s presence in Sri Lanka goes back to more than four decades starting with Transmission projects way back in the 60’s.


� In 1980’s there was a rapid development of Hydro Power Sector in Sri Lanka.

� Out of the five major Hydro Power Plants built during this time ABB was involved in Kotmale(210MW), Randenigala(140MW) and Rantambe(70MW).


� Besides the company’s contribution to the establishment of the National System Control Centre for Ceylon Electricity Board, ABB has executed several power and industrial Board, ABB has executed several power and industrial projects in the country

� National Control Centre was upgraded in 1999 in order to accommodate Y2K

� Approximately 60 percent of the High Voltage Breaker and 90 percent of High Voltage GIS substation population of the Ceylon Electricity Board network is by ABB
