Africa Business Forum, London, 22-23 June 2011 SADC: Regional Integration and Drivers of Growth
I am pleased to invite you to the Africa Business Forum 2011 in London
on 22nd - 23rd June. This year’s Forum will focus on the theme ‘SADC:
Regional Integration and Drivers of Growth’.
As the current Chairperson of the Southern African Development Com-
munity (SADC) I am delighted that the 2011 Africa Business Forum will
focus on this growing and dynamic region in Africa. SADC is made up of
15 member states and has a combined population of nearly 300 million
people; the business opportunities in the region are tremendous and this
Forum will help highlight them to the global business community.
Last year was the 30th Jubilee year for SADC. Member states can look
back with pride at the progress made and what has been achieved, but
there is much more to do. Current levels of Intra-SADC trade and invest-
ment do not reflect the deep and solid political relations and the potential
that exists between SADC countries and people, which creates great
opportunities for considerable growth.
I hope that you will join the regional leaders to explore these in more
detail. This Forum held in collaboration with the private sector, a key
stakeholder in future growth in the region, will focus on the opportunities
and challenges for accelerated integration and growth. The Forum will
share perspectives on how to move more quickly towards an integrated
single market, that will help attract international business as well as
strengthen intra-SADC trade and investment.
I join Dr Mohan Kaul, Director General of the Commonwealth Business
Council, in encouraging all with an interest in doing business in Southern
Africa to join us in London for the Forum

HE Hifikepunye Pohamba
President of the Republic of
Namibia and Chair of SADC
I invite all business leaders and investors with an interest in Southern
Africa to join us in London on 22-23 June for the SADC focused, Africa
Business Forum 2011. SADC is one of the most dynamic and business
friendly regions in Africa, with phenomenal opportunities for those
looking to do business in emerging markets.
The ABF will bring together business and government leaders to
discuss ways of strengthening, in coordination with the private sector,
SADC's efforts towards promoting sustainable and equitable growth and
development that will ensure wealth and job creation and poverty
alleviation.
I therefore urge you to make every effort to participate in this important
event and I look forward to meeting you in London.

Africa Business Forum, London, 22-23 June 2011 SADC: Regional Integration and Drivers of Growth
I am pleased to invite you to the Africa Business Forum 2011. Launched
as part of the Gleneagles G8 Summit in 2005 ABF has become an
important annual event, a platform for public & private sector cooperation
on Africa.
Over the past decade, Africa has transformed its economic performance,
and its image as a vital investment destination. An important factor has
been the progress on regional integration to create larger markets and
enhance competitiveness. This should now be complimented by
improving infrastructure and access to finance. This year’s focus on
SADC reflects this, and will allow business to dialogue with government
leaders from one of the fastest growing regions on the Continent.
In addition, the annual CBC African Business Awards will be held on 22
June, and I invite you to join us for this celebration of African
business leadership and innovation.
