ABIKA is a members’ owned and operated Cooperative Society, established in 2009 now with 245 active members and involving over 1,500 out growers growing mainly organic Soy beans, maize, sorghum and Chia. It was established by members to help themselves fight the problem of inadequate market,

Acan Buku Ipur kweri (ABIKA) Cooperative Society Ltd is a 54-member producer cooperative with 325 out growers of Organic Black Chia seeds, Soy beans, maize, sorghum and malt

that offers its members help with farms administration and provides agricultural and planting advice,

as well as harvesting, processing, and marketing operations for their more than 70,000 acres of

sugar cane. The cooperative's member/growers produce more than 350,000 tons of raw cane sugar

every year. SCGC is a joint-owner of American Sugar Refining (along with Florida Crystals), a top

New York refiner that owns Domino Foods, producer of Domino branded sugar products. The joint

venture grew exponentially in late 2010 following the purchase of Tate & Lyle's European sugar-

refining business.

American Sugar Refining picked up the sugars division for about £211 million ($318 million). The deal, which is part of Tate & Lyle's effort to sell off its refined sugars to focus on its Specialty Food Ingredients business, included cane sugar refineries in the UK and Portugal, a syrup factory in London, and associated sugar and syrup brands
