Before any procedure, an initial consultation is arranged to determine shape, size, and color. A medical history form must be completed and a spot test will be offered. The actual procedure takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the areas receiving the pig ment. A combination of topical anesthetics are used, producing total numbness or a mild tingling sensation.. How long does it take to recover? A slight swelling and redness will be present for 1 - 2 days. Eyes will look like you‘ve had a good cry and sometimes there is a little bruising. The intensity of the permanent makeup for the first 5 days will be stronger than the final color. About 40% to 50% of the color will exfoliate off. Patients are given aftercare information and advised to continue with their normal routine. After 4 to 6 weeks, the procedure heals completely and a touch-up is required for perfection. How long does permanent makeup last? With age, sun exposure, metabolism and natural skin exfoliation it will fade somewhat after 2-5 years and can be freshened with a touch-up. However, the more intense the color, the less obvious the change. For example, soft blonde eyebrows will fade sooner than darker brown eyebrows. Soft taupe eyeliner will fade sooner than black eyeliner.
