Kick Amp Responder (KAR™)The KAR™ is a drop in feature that allows the operator to control and monitor the output voltage of any crude or desalting coalescing operation using the existing electrostatic setup.

• The KAR™ can be programmed with parameters on the timing and how power is delivered to each grid within the vessel based on emulsion, API gravity, flow rate, etc.

• Replaces a conventional analog monitoring panel and mates up to the primary of any existing Electrostatic transformer with only a few minor modifications.

• Hazardous Rating: Class 1 Zone 1 Gas Group IIB Class 1 Div 2 Groups C&D

The EDGE Il DesignEDGE ll is available in different designs providing multiple options for optimization of individual applications. Op-tions to energize 1, 2 or 3 electrodes are based on power available. This design offers distribution and electrode locations that can vary, depending on processing requirements and specific operational needs. EDGE ll maximizes the desalting performance and feedstock capacity while minimizing demulsifier and solids-wetting chemicals of most chemical suppliers. The EDGE II is designed for processing:

• Heavy/high viscosity oil

• Crude oil high in solids content

• Synthetically produced oil

• Emulsion sensitive feed stocks

• Higher throughput rates in existing vessels

• Greater flexibility in changing feedstocks

• Dual Flow Distribution for faster coalescing of water droplets in high viscosity oil

EDGEEDGE (Enhanced Deep-Grid Electrical) desalters and dehydrators utilize a unique technology that provides the most effective solution for removal of contaminants such as sodium, calcium and magnesium chloride from crude oil. If not removed, these salts will hydrolyze to form hydrochloric acid which is the primary cause of corrosion failures within crude unit equipment.

EDGE desalters/dehydrators utilize AC-type electrostatic coalescing for the efficient removal of contaminants. Electrostatic coalescing is accomplished when the electrode grids apply a high voltage to the oil/water mixture, forcing it to separate. As the water is washed out, so are many of the undesirable solids.

The EDGE Design

EDGE Technology is available in two different designs, the EDGE and EDGE II, which provide desalter options for optimization to individual applications. The EDGE design minimizes transactor (electric power supply) capacity and power consumption. The designs provide three electrified electrode grids to maximize the desalting performances and feedstock capacity of the desalter vessel. EDGE desalters are designed to optimize the recommended demulsifier and solids-wetting chemicals of most chemical suppliers.

Vessel The entire hydrocarbon volume of the vessel is exposed to high voltage AC electrical fields. Four contiguous AC electrical fields

span from the oil/water interface to the top of the vessel.

Low Intensity Field The majority of the water is separated in the first low intensity electrical field, thereby reserving the high intensity fields for more difficult-to-resolve emulsions. This minimizes the water content in the high-intensity electrical field, thus reducing power

consumption.

High Intensity Field This field provides for the removal of final traces of water from the crude, improving performance. Increased depth of the high intensity fields provides excellent coalescence of small and highly

emulsified water droplets.

High Voltage Entrance System This voltage entrance system is doubly protected by two bushings

located in the oil-filled housing.

Transactor Optimized performance results from multiple transactor secondary voltage levels that provide flexibility at varying

operating conditions.

Inlet Header Even distribution of the oil/water emulsion across the entire vessel length produces a laminar profile. This emulsion is injected just above the oil/water interface, thereby maximizing crude oil

residence time and improving upset tolerance.

Effluent Water Header This header withdraws water and some solids along the entire length of the vessel, thus maximizing water-phase residence time

and reducing the oil content of the effluent water.

Mud Wash Header Spray nozzles are utilized in the unique mud wash headers design to effectively fluidize solids accumulated in the bottom of the vessel.

EDGE II - Dependable Steady State OperationA leader in the desalter and dehydration markets, EDGE ll is designed specifically for the treatment of the most difficult feed stocks at higher throughput rates.

EDGE II technology provides optimized performance resulting in greater long term value:

• Reduced salt carryover that results in minimized corrosion, chemical costs, equipment fouling, maintenance costs and unplanned shutdowns

• Decreased water carryover that leads to lower energy costs, stabilized unit operations, increased crude throughput, minimized slop oil production and reduced waste water treatment costs

• Minimized oil undercarry that results in reduced product losses and slop treatment costs

• Reduced solids carryover that leads to less equipment fouling and foaming

• Less power consumption resulting from rapid resolution of emulsions and unique electrode configuration

Oil Distributor (Inlet Header) Dual horizontal flow distribution provides quick, complete coalescence, insuring larger droplets and faster settling. This unique design offers improved laminar flow, providing an enhanced water droplet environment for emulsion sensitive crude oil.

High level distribution allows for 2-3 times the volume of water/oil emulsion, compared to other vertical flow desalters, improving the control of the interface (rag) emulsion and effluent water quality.

Electrode Configuration Three electrode grid design provides flexibility to handle upsets and long run cycle between shut-downs for maintenance. Transformer connection and phasing allows for little to no loss in performance due to loss of one energized electrode. Lower electrode provides high intensity electric field to interface for continuous resolution of rag emulsion enhancing ease of interface control and chemical reduction. Solid steel rod electrodes insure long life and ease of maintenance.
