Visiting the ARMORY CHAMBER is an integral part of any trip to Moscow, no matter the time of year. Serving as a modern treasure house, it is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace Complex. The armory began as the arsenal of the Moscow Kremlin as early as 1508, where were housed the finest of Muscovite gunsmiths, jewellers, and painters. Their resulting collection was later served as the Kremlin’s Great Treasury, and included many of the precious items that have been preserved for centuries.

If the Armoury hasn’t sated your lust for diamonds, there are more in the DIAMOND FUND EXHIBITION. The fund dates back to 1719, when Peter the Great established the Russian Crown treasury. These gemstones and jewellery were garnered by tsars and empresses, including the 190-carat diamond given to Catherine the Great by her lover Grigory Orlov. The Great Imperial Crown, encrusted with 4936 diamonds, was the coronation crown of Catherine the Great and successive rulers.

TRERYAKOV ART GALLERY. No other museum would offer you a better insight into and an overview of the Russian art. The gallery’s collection covers 1000 years of the Russian art and boasts many inspiring masterpieces of the world level. For those wanting a greater insight into Russian culture and history, the Hermitage's extensive collection of artworks literally paints a picture of the nation's captivating past. In fact it's one of the largest and oldest museums in the world! THE HERMITAGE has about 2.7 million exhibits and displays a full range of world art from Ancient Egypt to early 20th century Europe. It includes works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, unique collections of Rembrandt, Rubens, French Impressionists But museum is not just a place full of treasures, but the museum itself is a real jewel, piece of antiquity, a house of mysterious Russian history.

The vast golden dome dominating the St Petersburg skyline is the neo-classical ST ISAAC'S CATHEDRAL. 100kg of gold leaf were used for the dome and the end result - a lavish interior of marble and mosaic - is a must-see. The interior is richly decorated with mosaics so intricate that you can hardly tell them from a painting, with exquisite combination of semiprecious stones, gilded sculptures and bronze bas-reliefs. You can find 14 types of colored Italian marble in the decoration of the interior. The columns of the main icon-stand are made of malachite and lapis-lazuli.

If any proof is needed for the extravagance of Russia's Imperial rulers, then it can be found in the fact that, in less than two centuries, the Romanov Tsars established this suburban estate named TSARSKOE SELO (TSAR VILLAGE) - that, in terms of grandeur and excess, outstrip even famous French Palaces and gorgeous Italian Villas.The palace is nearly 1km in circumference, with elaborately decorated blue-and-white facades featuring gilded atlantes, caryatids and pilasters. It took over 100kg of gold to decorate the palace exteriors. The interiors of the Catherine Palace are no less spectacular. THE AMBER ROOM in the Palace was a complete chamber decoration of amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors. Due to its singular beauty, it was sometimes dubbed the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

PETERHOF is a gala summer tsar residence. A splendid park on the shore of the Baltic Sea with more than 150 fountains, 4 big cascades, beautiful palaces, blooming flowers and friendly squirrels – this place is really a must to visit.French Versailles was indeed Peter the Great inspiration when he decided to build an imperial palace and many say Peterhof is even more beautiful than the famous French complex. The focal point of the whole ensemble is the jaw-dropping cascade fountain leading down from the palace. As of today the Peterhof is decorated by the biggest system of water cascades, fountains and sculptural elements in the world.

KARELIA is renowned for its natural beauty, wildlife and pretty wooden villages and churches. Bears, wolverines, martens and eagles are among some of the species to be found wandering Karelia’s endless forest, hills and lake shores.

There are more than 61 thousand lakes in Karelia. By their quantity on the territory of 1,000 sq.m., Karelia takes the first place not only among the regions of Russia, but also in the whole world.

The pogost of KIZHI (i.e. the Kizhi enclosure) is located on one of the many islands in Lake Onega, in Karelia. Two 18th-century wooden churches, and an octagonal clock tower, also in wood and built in 1862, can be seen there. These unusual constructions, in which carpenters created a bold visionary architecture, perpetuate an ancient model of parish space and are in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
