About the AirportPhoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, located in Mesa,Arizona is recognized as one of the fastest growingsmall hub airports in the United States and has earneda reputation for being a "just plane easy®" commercialalternative to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.The Airport serves 39 cities with non-stop service viaAllegiant Air. Over 1.3 million passengers usedGateway Airport in 2015. By 2024, Gateway isprojected to see more than 2 million passengersannually.

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is owned and operated by the Phoenix- Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. The Authority currently consists of the City of Mesa, Town of Gilbert, Town of Queen Creek, Gila River Indian Community, City of Phoenix, and City of Apache Junction. Operated by a staff of 121 employees, the Airport has a current operating budget of over $18 million and a current capital budget of $18.6 million dollars. In 2015, the Airport accommodated more than 222,000 takeoffs and landings, making it the 43rd busiest airport in the United States, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Airport is home to more than 50 companies and contributes more than$1.3 billion annually to the Arizona economy.With three long runways, 1,000 acres within the airport’splanning area, direct freeway access, and a supportivepolitical climate; Gateway Airport is the centerpiece ofthe Phoenix East Valley. Gateway Airport has begunpreliminary work, including an EnvironmentalAssessment on land that will accommodate a futureexpanded passenger terminal facility.

Apache Junction

Education

Education in the East Valley Region is a key economic driverand determinant of the region’s quality of life. Education is apriority for East Valley residents and they are served byworld-class institutions, key industry partnerships and a strongculture of learning. Arizona State University and ChandlerGilbert Community College are located within walkingdistance of Gateway Airport Serving over 10,000 studentswith plans to grow by 50%.

The percentage of the population age 25+ that have earned abachelor’s degree or higher is 33% while the national averageis 28%.

Get Outdoors

The region provides one of the lushest and most colorfuldeserts in the world, and rugged mountains define thecity's horizon. In winter, sunshine warms hiking and bikingtrails. In spring, blooming cactuses and wildflowers carpethillsides and valleys. Enveloped by such breathtakingscenery, outdoor enthusiasts who visit the area usuallycome to the same conclusion as coyote pups andjackrabbits: The Sonoran Desert is a great place to play.

Sporting Events & Activities In The EastValley & Greater Phoenix Region

There’s always a game happening in the area, which is home tothe Arizona State University Sun Devils and University of ArizonaWildcats as well as five professional teams - and the fans thatsupport them.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB) play in Chase Field, while thePhoenix Suns (NBA) and Phoenix Mercury (WNBA) run thecourt in US Airways Center, and with both venues downtownPhoenix, getting around is easy.

The Arizona Cardinals (NFL) and Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) playat University of Phoenix Stadium and Jobing.com Arenarespectively, and they are neighbors in the West Valley.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open is the well-attendedtournament on the PGA Tour. The biggest names in golf play thetournament every year at the TPC Scottsdale in early February.

Cactus League Spring Training showcases 15 teams withinmiles of each other, so you can see the biggest names in theMLB up-close. Sit in readily available stadium or lawn seats andhave the chance to get your memorabilia signed by your favoriteplayer. Cactus Leagues lasts the month of March each year.

The NASCAR series comes to town twice a year, with theSubway Fresh Fit 500 in February and the Kobalt Tools 500 inNovember. Fans pour into Phoenix International Raceway tocatch a glimpse of their favorite driver.

The Fiesta Bowl is played at the beginning of every January aspart of the BCS Series.

The Position

Under the direction of the Executive Director, theDeputy Director is responsible for administration andmanagerial duties overseeing and guidingdepartments and special projects to ensure that thepolicies and objectives of Phoenix-Mesa GatewayAirport Authority (PMGAA) are achieved in a safe,effective, efficient, and professional manner.

The Deputy Director manages, directs, and supportsthe daily operations of major support and operatingfunctions of the Airport; supervises staff andactivities of various departments; identifies,analyses, and executes policies, programs, andprocedures to enhance the operation and efficiencyof Gateway; assists the leadership team informulating business strategy and assumes theresponsibilities of the Executive Director duringhis/her absence.

The Deputy Director will have the ability toeffectively communicate with the Phoenix-MesaGateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Board, thegeneral public, project contractors, vendors,management, public officials, and Gateway staff inorder to complete various planning and projects.He/she will maintain effective working relationshipswith staff, tenants, customers, vendors, and thegeneral public and make oral presentations in publicand internal meetings. Further, the Deputy Directorfacilitates team projects and coaches teammembers.

The Ideal Candidate

PMGAA seeks a progressive, decisive member forthe leadership team of one of the fastest growingAirports in the United States. The ideal candidatehas professional and practical aviation experience,with the background and achievements which willassist in moving PMGAA forward with its futureoperational and capital goals and who has a proventrack record of earning the respect and trust ofinternal and external stakeholders.

To be considered, candidates must have any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Aviation Management, or a closely related field. A Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates must also have extensive experience in directing or assisting in the direction of airport operations and activities, including supervisory responsibilities. A.A.E. accreditation is a plus.
