About the Author Originally from Columbus, Indiana, first time author, Toni Nunemaker is a kindergarten through 8th grade music teacher and band director for Excel Charter Academy, one of National Heritage Academy’s schools. She lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan and has her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University and her Masters in Reading from Grand Valley State University.

Toni will tell you that her job is simply singing and playing with children all day. Now in her 20th year at Excel, she weaves stories of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven to enthrall her students and loves playing Farmer in the Dell with her kindergartners.

When Toni’s grandson, Connor Verkerke insisted that she write a book about love just a few days before his death, a seed was planted. After Connor was murdered, Toni began writing down facts about the case and her most cherished memories of Connor. Now, two years later, she has woven a beautiful story about miracles, forgiveness, and compassion. It is a story about recovering from tragedy and healing through love.
