ResearchResearch

Research is the foundation of everything Women’s World Banking does. For more than 35 years, our team has conducted in-depth client and market research to understand women’s financial behaviors and the life experiences that shape those behaviors. These insights have enabled us, and the financial institutions we work with, to develop financial products with the greatest potential to help women achieve success from various parts of the world.

ResearchResearch

Women’s World Banking conducts global and regional studies that enable us to identify new markets, partners with whom to work, and best practices in financial and non-financial products, services and policies that help women better manage their financial lives. This research has made us a sought after resource for partners looking for ways to ensure more women have access to financial services.

ResearchResearch

To ensure ongoing success, it is critical to understand client outcomes from the products we develop and how women’s financial behavior translates into positive benefits for themselves, their families and communities. All our projects are evaluated on whether the women who have accessed our financial products are served well, and the financial and social outcomes for women and their families.

Women’s World Banking helps our partners develop new ways to serve their clients through innovation in areas such as credit, savings and insurance products specifically designed for the unique needs of women.

ProductsProduct Development

Our product incubation process begins with market research: speaking to our local partners and their clients to understand what financial services they want and what attributes those products should have. We then pilot the product, evaluate the results and improve the product before rolling it out to all our partner’s clients. After successfully implementing the product across the institution, we replicate what we have learned in other markets.

LeadershipLeadership Training

As financial services become more widespread and markets become more competitive, even well-established financial institutions need to ensure they are prepared to meet the needs of low-income clients. Yet, research shows that there is little management or leadership training for senior leaders of financial institutions serving low-income women; if they do receive training it often isn’t tailored to their needs or is a single session with no follow-up. Women’s World Banking’s suite of leadership and diversity programs supports institutions to develop innovative financial products and services, and create inclusive workplaces to attract and retain diverse talent, so that they can better serve the low-income women’s market segment.

Women’s World Banking also knows from research that gender diversity within institutions allows them to better serve women. Women’s World Banking has been working with institutions on increasing their gender diversity since 2008, both in response to a declining number of women at senior levels in the industry and in recognition of the strong business case for diverse executive leadership.

Although financial inclusion is now on the global agenda, financial inclusion for women is often not raised as a priority issue. Women’s World Banking’s knowledge and influence work focuses on drawing attention to the necessity of serving women well with financial products and services. The data we gather through research, product development and leadership training is then used as the evidence base to advocate for greater financial inclusion for women. We share our knowledge in a variety of different ways including webinars and case study publications to roundtables, and global summits. Most importantly, we spread awareness of the business case for serving women as clients and leaders.
