Beliefs

The Kunas believe in the Nana Dummad or

Mother Hearth, a belief closely associatedwith respect to their natural environment.

While the Sahila represents the community

in the on!ress, and the Nele is their

spiritual !uide. He is a healer !ranted withparticular powers.

Traditional Clothing The Kuna men wear traditional cloths, while the

women wear very colourful dresses and traditional

Molas. They also wear all over their arms and le!sthe traditional bracelets of multi colour beads called

Winnis or ha"uiras in Spanish. #ccordin! to their

beliefs, winnis protect them from bad spirits. Women

!enerally have their nose and ears pierced with!olden rin!s, and have a blue vertical line painted on

their foreheads made out of $a!ua fruit.
