Hot Form Quench (HFQ®) is a new volume production process for the hot stamping of
complex shaped aluminium components from high and ultra-high strength alloys. HFQ® is
now cost effectively reducing vehicle mass and has been adopted on premium production
vehicles.
Impression Technologies (ITL) has exclusive rights to the HFQ® technology and has
invested $7m in the World’s first dedicated production and development facility in Coventry,
England.
HFQ® is being adopted by automotive OEMs to reduce the cost of aluminium structures
through the design of deep drawn, stiff and strong components, enabling part integration
and deletion of reinforcements. In addition, due to the increased formability achieved during
the hot forming process, complex panels can often be formed in a single draw tool, allowing
reduced press tool investment when compared to conventionally pressed panels requiring
secondary operations. HFQ® formed parts, may also enable a reduction in assembly opera-
tions and associated tooling investment, since traditionally cold formed multi-part assemblies
can often be achieved as a single HFQ® pressing.
HFQ® is cost effectively reducing vehicle weight through the exploitation of high and
ultra-high strength aluminium alloys to form complex deep drawn pressings. HFQ® achieves
tight radii and the addition of panel stiffening features which are infeasible with convention-
ally pressed high strength aluminium.

LIGHTER - We have a full range of products which enable our customers to make their
vehicles lighter. For example, we were the first to engineer body shop adhesives (SikaPow-
er®), which enable mixed-material bonding of lighter materials such as aluminum, carbon
fiber reinforced plastic, as well as traditional and high strength steel.
STRONGER AND SAFER - We were the pioneer in vehicle body reinforcements with our
SikaStructure® and SikaReinforcer® products, which not only help stiffen the vehicle for
better overall dynamics but also improve crash performance and increase vehicle occupant
safety.
QUIETER - SikBaffle® seals noise pathways while SikaDamp® reduces the body panel
vibration that contributes to audible noise in the vehicle. Both products are engineered
for best-in-class weight-to-performance ratio. Used together, or separately, our leading
acoustics solutions improve vehicle occupant comfort.
GREENER - We were the first to develop glass bonding pre-treatment systems which
contain and release fewer volatile organic compounds – a more environmentally friendly
approach that easily outperforms the industry’s previous generation of products.

With their HyperForm® steels Tata Steel showcases at EuroCarBody how improved
formability enables the use of higher strength steels and facilitates lightweighting.
Tata Steel material experts are very much aware of pro’s and con’s of various ma-
terial solutions for lightweighting and they look forward to share visions and learnings
with you at the EuroCarBody event. They will explain to you how HyperForm steels
developed by Tata Steel, enable lightweight design at several strength levels up to
1000 MPa.
Input to the debate are the Total Cost of Ownership case studies that will be pre-
sented at the Tata Steel stand. They show that by increased formability one can achieve
high value in use and easy to process parts:
• a weight reduction of up to 25% can be achieved by replacing conventional HSLA and
DP steels by HyperForm steels at different strength levels
• further Total Cost of Ownership potential can be found in an improved press shop
yield reducing scrap rates
• HyperForm grades have GI coating, which is a cost-effective solution against other
coatings
• cost implications are minimal as higher material price is compensated by the lower
weight, hence reduced material need

The Automotive Components Business Unit of voestalpine offers a complete spec-
trum of pressed parts in the outer-panel segment and highly innovative structural parts,
zinc-coated hot-formed parts, laser-welded blanks and complex assemblies with a focus
on light-weight design.
phs-directform®, the world novelty developed by voestalpine, is directly hot-
formed, hot-dip galvanized steel strip to be used in corrosion-resistant light-weight com-
ponents for the automotive industry. The simple process steps of component manufac-
turing with phs-directform® are convincing when compared to those of phs-ultraform®.
phs-ultraform® combines the benefits of press-hardened components with the
high-quality corrosion resistance of galvanized steel strip. The hot-dip galvanized boron
steel was specially developed by voestalpine and the indirect hot forming process opti-
mized by the company permit light-weight construction of a new dimension with regard
to freedom of design, dimensional accuracy and process security.
Hot forming and cathodic zinc protection are compatible! With innovations such
as phs-directform® or phs-ultraform® and customer-oriented strategies, we make a pos-
itive contribution to our customers‘ competitive position.
We accompany our customers through the entire process (from development,
project management and toolmaking to prototyping, small-batch production, testing,
large-scale serial production, assembly, abutting surface treatment, quality assurance,
