Hi Quilters, As fall is finally in the air, we know that Thanksgiving and Christmas aren't far behind. Now is the time to make those special gifts for those you love, before it is too late and you end up having to shop for something in the Christmas crowds. I remember as a child waiting for Christmas seemed to take forever. My mom often made me clothes or quilts for my dolls, and one Christmas my dad made me a trunk in which to keep them. I still have the dolls, clothes and the trunk, for those are the gifts that I treasured. Handmade gifts show love, whether or not they are for your family, needy strangers, returning soldiers, or anyone with a need you can meet. Try not to be too busy to show real love by making something for some-one. We can all go out and buy something marked "Made in China" as too many things are today. It takes real effort to give something "made by me." If you don't have family to sew, knit, crochet or craft something for, take a kit to make a stocking or quilt for someone in need. Remember, Christmas isn't about getting, it's about giving. And, giving is so much more satisfying!

Dyna and Cathy , One of the Marines you gave a quilt to early in the year is now working with volunteer services at the V.A. and when we went on a tour with the Depart-ment of California Auxiliary President last week one of the ladies asked him what the best thing that ever happened to him was. His comment was besides working there was the Quilt he was given by the Blocks for the Brave at the Norwalk American Legion Post. I screamed for joy and he laughed and remem-bered the dragon on my shoulder and said this lady was there too. I felt 6 feet tall. BLOCKS FOR THE BRAVE
To date we have made at total of 892 quilts and have presented 806 of them to date. We have 40 that are ready to present that we are holding back for December, but if you know someone that is in need of one please let Cathy or I know and we will get one to them. Cathy just delivered about 22 quilts to Josie at the VA hospital last week. We just received our new fabric order!! Lots of great new red, white and blues!!!! Woohoo!!! We will be cutting it into 1yd cuts next Sunday so if you are getting ready to start a new quilt bring your pattern. Pillow cases:
We currently have an abundance of them. If you wish to make one that matches your quilt that is cool. We would like to work through the ones that we have. Since we have been getting some good donations we plan on buying fabric just for pillow cases. Quilt Sizes and fabrics : The size of the quilts that we like to make are at least 60 inches wide by at least 74 inches long. The longest we would like is 82 inches. We would like the person receiving the quilt to be able to wrap themselves up in it for comfort and warmth! We want them to have them for a life time! We want to keep the fabrics appropriate for our troops. In other words please no girly fabrics that are floral, fruit, dolls etc ...

Attendance at the September 2012 meeting: 21 members; 5 guests. This was the lowest attendance in Guild history. As of September 30, 2012, Acacia has 39 mem-bers (including five life members). Please welcome the following new member into the Acacia Quilt Guild: Myra Pasol of La Palma
The 2012-2013 Membership drive contin-ues and we are taking renewals at the Membership Desk. The renewal form is available in the newsletter as well as on the website. Membership in the Acacia
Quilt Guild is $25. Thank you to those who have renewed their membership. We encourage all of last year's members to renew and to bring new members into the Guild. The new Membership Committee is large because we have many friendly and gra-cious ladies who wished to help welcome Members as they come to meetings. We will wear many hats and rotate jobs so do not be surprised to see us everywhere; i.e., Membership, Greeter, etc.
Remember to wear your name tag to each meeting. No name tag = 25-cent fine, but we really would rather get to know you better than to have your quarters.
Opportunity Basket If you would like to make donations for November & De-cember Opportunity basket, please bring to the October meeting.
BOUTIQUE IDEA CONTEST WINNER
Prizes will be given at the October general
meeting for:1) the most outrageous/ exot-

judge the ideas if we get enough people
on the committee or the board will judge if
we don’t. Join the boutique committee!

LIBRARY PROCEDURE CHANGE Starting this month there are some changes in our Library check-out procedures. Instead of having all the books carted out by Susan MacVicar, now you may: 1. go to our AQG website library at
http://www.acaciaquiltguild.org/Acacia_Library.pdf
2. email Susan at [email protected] and tell her which items you would like to check out at the next meeting. She will have them all ready for you then.
This plan will help you get the books you want more quickly, and it will save the wear-and-tear on Susan and her helpers of loading and un-loading the cart. Thank you in advance for making this change a very positive one!

DESIREE HABICHT “WATERCOLOR APPLIQUE”
Dear friends from Blocks For The Brave, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the beautiful quilt that you made for me. I am from Bak-ersfield, CA and I received my quilt from the quilting store my mom takes classes at. They personally read me the letter and it felt very nice to know that there are people who don't know me that are looking out for me wherever I am. I just finished a one year tour in Afghanistan as a member of a Route Clearance compa-ny in the Army. I came back to the U.S. March 12 Th and I received my quilt when I went home to Bakers-field on leave in early April. I live in Fort Stewart, GA now with my wife Ashley. We greatly appreciate every-thing you do and the quilt is beautiful. If there is anything I can do to help out feel free to email me back at anytime and I will contact you as soon as possible. Once again thank you very much and you are all GREATLY appreciated for everything you do. Much love and thanks, David and Ashley See our newest photos, http://www.flickr.com/photos/blocksforthebrave/
