FOREWORD

To plan and carry out the academic activities in a meaningful way, anacademic calendar is utmost need for any academic Institution. It is mypleasure to present the academic Calendar for Higher Secondary courseholders for the academic session 2017-18.

The +2 stage courses under AHSEC are imparted by Degree Colleges,Junior Colleges as well as Higher Secondary Schools in the State of Assam. While conducting Classes, the Colleges follow the holiday list and academictime schedule as specified by their respective Universities. The High Schoolsupgraded to Higher Secondary Schools follow the schedule as prescribed bySEBA. This creates confusion among the teachers and the students of HigherSecondary stage as regards the academic schedule and the actual teachingdays required for the course.

Contemplating uniformity in the academic activities in the HS Schoolsand Colleges imparting HS Courses as well as with an endeavour to increasethe number of teaching days, Council has proposed this Academic Calendarfor the session 2017-18. It is expected that institutions imparting HS SchoolCourses under the academic control of AHSEC will follow the activities asper this calendar in true sense of the term.

Giving emphasis on the need base curriculum, it is felt that ‘RoadSafety’ and ‘Disaster Management’ are very needful for every citizen of theworld. So these two chapters are included in the revised text book ofEnvironmental Education in 2016 and it has been implemented since 2016-17 academic session under AHSEC. The book Environmental Education hasbeen published in three versions– Assamese, English and Bengali.

AHSEC has also revised the text book of Assamese (MIL) for HS 2nd

year i.e. ‘SAHITYA SOURAV’ and it is being inplemented since 2016-17onwards.

This year, AHSEC has revised the text book of Assamese (MIL) forH.S. 1st year, named by ‘SAHITYA SOURAV’ to upgrade the syllabus inrecent time and it will be implemented from the academic session 2017-18.

It is hoped that the Heads of the institutions will follow the AcademicCalendar to implement various academic activities following tests, examinations, special activities including ‘Observance Days’ etc. for betterfuture.

The AHSEC acknowledge with thanks the suggestions put forwardedby various organisations, members of various philanthropic committeeincluding persons of status.
