1 See online information resources for UCA scholarships at https://uca.edu/scholarships/ and for state scholarships at https://scholarships.adhe.edu/scholarships-and-programs/a-z/. 2 See appropriate choices, alternatives, or substitutions under “LD UCA Core” in the Undergraduate Bulletin. During the first year, a student must complete a LD UCA Core course designated as a First-Year Seminar (FYS) in Critical Inquiry, Diversity, or Responsible Living. Note: Students may be able to take a LD UCA Core course required for the major as a FYS option. The student would then substitute another LD UCA Core course in its place on the AMAP. For example, if a student took ECON 2310 as a FYS, they would need to replace ECON 2310 on the AMAP with a different LD UCA Core course. The student will

Notes – continued also need to complete major, minor, or general elective courses designated as fulfilling the upper-division and capstone re-quirements of the UCA Core. (Please see endnotes 4 and 5 for additional LD Core information related to this major.) Students will satisfy Upper Division Core requirements for Critical Inquiry, Communication, Diversity, and the Capstone by completing the following required major courses: ECON 3302 Intermediate Macroeconomics [UD UCA Core: I, C], ECON 4335 Interna-tional Trade [UD UCA Core: D], and ECON 4380 Senior Seminar in Economics [UD UCA Core: Z (capstone)]. Students may choose from major electives, minor courses, or general electives to meet the UCA Core Responsible Living upper-division re-quirement. Possible major elective alternatives with the Responsible Living Designation are: ECON 3310 Public Finance [UD UCA Core: R] or ECON 3330 Environmental Economics [UD UCA Core: R]. 3 Students must complete a course at the 2000 level or higher in a foreign language (or score an equivalent score on the placement exam) for a Bachelor of Arts degree. A student with no previous experience in a foreign language normally will en-roll in 1310. Students with prior experience in a language are strongly encouraged to take the departmental placement test before enrolling in their first course. Note: Guided Study (i.e., correspondence) courses will not be accepted as transfer credit in fulfillment of the foreign language requirement. Students who have not previously received undergraduate credit in a given foreign language at a college or university may receive credit by examination in that language. Such credit is limited to a maxi-mum of six hours in one language or twelve hours within the department and is granted by fulfilling the following criteria:

    • Achievement of a satisfactory score on a placement examination administered by the Department of Languages, Lingtuistics, Literatures, and Cultures.

    • Satisfactory completion, with a minimum grade of B, of the next foreign language course above the level for which credit by examination is to be awarded.

    • In cases of unusually thorough preparation, or in the case of international students, exemption may be sought from the Department of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures.

A student who has met the foreign language requirement in fewer hours than listed on the AMAP must substitute a 3-hour general elective for any foreign language course that is not needed. 4 A student must take either ECON 1310 (LD UCA Core Responsible Living) or ECON 2310 (LD UCA Core Diversity in World Cultures) from the LD UCA Core. A student will meet the LD UCA Core Critical Inquiry Social Science requirement by taking either ECON 2320 or ECON 2321. 5 Students may take their LD UCA Core Science classes in any space designated LD UCA Core course. However, at least one Natural Science course must be completed in the first year. 6 This Academic Map includes 21 credit hours in the Minor field of study. Minor requirements range from 15 to 27 credit hours. Depending on the minor selected, the student will need to adjust the number of general elective and minor elective credit hours in this AMAP.

7 Economics Major Global Electives Course Options:

The student must take three upper division economics major elective courses.

The student must also select two additional classes from the following list of classes:

    • Economics courses: Any 3000- or 4000-level Economics course not used elsewhere on the academic map • Finance courses: FINA 3340, FINA 4333 • Geography courses: GEOG 3300, 3305, 3315, 3320, 3335, 3345, 3346, 3381, 3385 • History courses: HIST 3304, 3312, 3321, 4305, 4328, 4347, 4377, 4381, 4383, 4387, 4394, 4397 • Political Science courses: PSCI 3305, 3315, 3340, 3382, 4305, 4310, 4320, 4325, 4328, 4345, 4348, 4388, 4395 • Sociology courses: SOC 3398, 4341 • Global courses must have an international component and be current. A student may take other classes approved by

his/her faculty major advisor (or major department chair) to meet this requirement.

A possible major elective with the Diversity Designation is ECON 4335 International Trade [UD UCA Core: D]. 3 Students completing a bachelor of science in Economics must complete one additional year (2 courses) of additional MATH courses at or above the level of MATH 1496 to meet the requirements for the BS degree. Most economics majors will use MATH 1496 and MATH 2311 to meet this requirement. However, students who use MATH 1496 to meet their lower-division UCA Core requirements will need to take MATH 2311 and an additional MATH course chosen in conjunction with their major advisor. 4 Students may take their LD UCA Core Science classes in any space designated LD UCA Core course. However, at least one Natural Science course must be completed in the first year. 5 This Academic Map includes 21 credit hours in the Minor field of study. Minor requirements range from 15 to 27 credit hours. Depending on the minor selected, the student will need to adjust the number of general elective and minor elective credit hours in this AMAP. 6 A student must complete four economics major elective courses from the following list: ECON 3310 Public Finance (UD UCA Core: R), ECON 3315 Labor Economics, ECON 3330 Environmental Economics (UD UCA Core: R), ECON 3382 Internship in Economics, ECON 4320 Comparative Economic Systems, ECON 4335 International Trade (UD UCA Core: D), ECON 4340 Managerial Economics, ECON 4360 Health Care Economics, ECON 4375 Economics of Developing Nations, ECON 4382 Internship in Economics, FINA 3340 Money, Banking, and Financial Markets, FINA 4332 Investments, FINA 4333 International Finance. Students should check the Undergraduate Bulletin for details about prerequisites for these courses.

To be completed by the advisor when an Eight-Semester Plan is accepted by the student:

If applicable, has student selected a minor? Type “x” as appropriate. No Yes If “yes,” specify:

1 See online information resources for UCA scholarships at https://uca.edu/scholarships/ and for state scholarships at https://scholarships.adhe.edu/scholarships-and-programs/a-z/. 2 See appropriate choices, alternatives, or substitutions under “UCA Core” in the Undergraduate Bulletin. During the first year, a student must complete a Lower Division (LD) UCA Core course designated as a First-Year Seminar (FYS) in Critical Inquiry, Diversity, or Responsible Living. An approved LD UCA Core lab science and an approved LD UCA Core math course should be taken in the first two years if possible.

The student will also need to complete major, minor, or general elective courses designated as fulfilling the requirements of the upper-division (UD) UCA Core. Innovation and Entrepreneurship majors will satisfy the upper-division UCA Core require-ments by completing the following courses: FINA 3330 Managing Finance and Capital [UD UCA Core: I], MGMT 3340 Manag-ing People and Work [UD UCA Core: D, R], MGMT 4347 Managing Policy and Strategy [UCA Core: Z (Capstone)], and MGMT 4376 New Venture Creation [UD UCA Core: Communication]. 3 Students must select one course from each category to meet LD UCA Core requirements.

    * First Year Seminar courses may be available in these areas.

Students may use either MATH 1390, MATH 1395, or any lower division UCA Core approved calculus class such as MATH 1496 to meet the lower division UCA core requirements depending upon their initial placement. Students who take MATH 1395 or MATH 1496 to meet their lower division core requirement will have an additional 3 hours of general electives. 4 All Innovation and Entrepreneurship majors must take ECON 2310, MKTG 2376, ECON 2320, and ECON 2321 as part of their Business Foundation courses. Nine of these hours (ECON 2310, MKTG 2376, and either ECON 2320 or ECON 2321) will count towards both BBA degree requirements and the UCA Core requirements. Students who initially place in MATH 1395 or MATH 1496 will be able to use the course to meet the BBA degree requirements and the UCA Core requirements. 5 MATH 1395 is no longer a prerequisite for QMTH 2330. These courses may be interchanged in semesters where they are listed. 6 Students may take their UCA Core Science classes in any space designated UCA Core course. However, at least one Natu-ral Science course must be completed in the first 2 semesters, if possible. 7 In order for a BBA-seeking student to enroll in more than nine (9) hours of upper division courses in the College of Business, they must meet the following progression requirements:

    1. Obtain a 2.0 or higher cumulative grade point average, and 2. Complete ACCT 2310, 2311, ECON 2320, 2321, QMTH 2330 with a 2.0 grade point average in these five courses.

No course may be repeated for a grade after a course for which it is a prerequisite has been passed. 8 FINA 3330, MGMT 3340, MGMT 3344, MKTG 3350. These courses have a prerequisite requirement of the successful com-pletion of the following courses: ACCT 2310, ACCT 2311, ECON 2320, ECON 2321, and QMTH 2330. No course may be re-peated for a grade after a course for which it is a prerequisite has been passed.
