About city Banská Bystrica

The formation of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica was conditioned by the need of the whole society to complete the academic education in arts but mainly by the diversification and decentralization of the possibilities of art study in Slovakia. In the previous social system the plurality in art education was preserved by the academies of arts in Prague, Brno and Bratislava

The priority in the area of education being offered at the faculties of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica between the years 2002 and 2005 was the transformation of the content and the forms of study subjects which were taught according to the previous rules for the accredited study programs for higher education, introducing the credit system, support of the academic mobility, and monitoring of the quality of education with respect to the Bologna Declaration

Academy has three faculties – Faculty of dramatic arts, Faculty of music arts, Faculty of fine arts

Academy of Arts – Formation and Priority

The Faculty of Dramatic Arts was established by the decision of the rector of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica on 7th October 1998 from the then Department of acting and directing that since the foundation of the Academy of Arts had been a part of the Faculty of Music.

Academy of Arts has bilateral agreement with 33 Universities (Poland, Lithuania, Italia, Finnland, France, Hungary, Czech republic, Rumania, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Island, Slovinia, ...)

Erasmus student mobility

The reason why our students want to study at foreign Universities is simple – they want to challenge and to gain opportunity study same field at different place. Yes, there are another reasons as meet new people, see new country, have new experiences, etc.

Most of the outgoing students travel for student mobility to Czech republic, Finnland, Poland, Italia, etc.

Most of the incoming studets are from Serbia, Czech republic, Slovenia, because of language, which is very close to slovak language.

Our students after arrive from foreign University are doing visual presentation, which motivate schoolmates to look for same experiences. Especially we usually send out pair of students, because they can help each other and be support for each other

Outgoing students can stay by student mobility from 2 – 12 months by ECTS credit system

Incoming students have their own choice to select study subjects – they usually have individual study program

We offer student house as a accomodation, library and coordinator who speaks english

Outgoing and incoming students

Problems and solutions – Developing International Partnerships

Bilateral agreements – problems with language

especially in theatre acting and film

scriptwriting. Students of acting search schools

where they can work out on their speech. But

just few can fluently speak english. That is why

they looking for more acting movement with less

using speech. Same problem with scriptwriting.

Get more incoming students

Some universities argue that they do not need

additional bilateral agreements

Individual study program for incoming students

Trying to search for projects by which we can start work on common target and after it to try for bilateral agreements – for students of theatre acting. Students who study film scriptwriting has to learn more english. We have no problems with students who study film documentary art, cause this is 50% art and 50% to know technology with they work.

Common projects. an annual festival of art universities ARTÓRIUM through which we seek to establish new contacts and develop already existing

Here it is very difficult, because certain we attempted to re-establish joint projects and bilateral agreements, but we were met with a negative opinion

There is unfortunately necessary to gain time and keep their own young teachers because the older generation speaks only the basics of the English language (or two fluent in languages other than English)
