(Scanning Tunnelling Microscope) - tunnelling effect microscope, at the largest

German university, system capable of sub-atomic resolution; b) building a

unique system in the world at the University of Maine, USA, able to "see" both

the atoms on any surface, and the atoms of the tip used for tunnelling; c)

implementation and use of a variable temperature STM-AFM system at the

Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory University of California Berkeley, USA, for

experiments in fundamental phenomena of friction between atoms. 9 years of

Areas of expertise: coordinative ionic polymerisation of dienes; studies on the

physical and mechanical properties of polymeric composites with various

structures; studies on the optimal content of methylol groups of urea-

formaldehyde resin; studies on the polycondensation reaction between

piperazine, formaldehyde, and benzyl alcohol; studies on the structure-

property relation for composite materials; development of original

MATACHE Savel


Senior researcher, engineer, Ph.D., director of the Research Centre Săvineşti.

Areas of expertise: scientific research on the processes of degradation of

thermolabile substances during separation processes; formulates a new

definition of the thermolability of substances and proposes precise methods

for its measuring; reveals the existence of a thermal threshold at which

degradation takes place with measurable speed and, in premiere in literature,

introduces a scale of thermolability of substances; proposes an original

method of calculation to evaluate the effectiveness of purification equipment

through thermal processes; publishing activity.

Professor, veterinarian and chemist, Ph.D., consultant at the Department of

Biochemistry and Veterinary Toxicology, USAMV Iaşi. In the US he is an

Affiliate Professor at the Department of Fundamental Medical Sciences,

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University, Indiana.

Activity: research - Clinical biochemistry (proteomics in large ruminants,

biochemical particularities in the diagnosis of chronic hematuria syndrome in

cattle), analytical toxicology, mycotoxicology, veterinary therapy. Lectures on:

Biochemistry, Clinical and diagnostic veterinary toxicology, Ecotoxicology.

Professor, PhD, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Department of Physical Chemistry

Areas of expertise: Physical chemistry, biological chemistry, biochemistry, chemical thermodynamics, biophysical structure, physical chemistry of nanostructures and nanostructured materials, chemistry of colloids and interfaces. A particular importance of her teaching concerns and research is given to molecular and cellular medicine using AFM and STM imaging, and respectively to biomaterials with biological and clinical applications. She developed new strategies for interfacial nanofabrication and physical, chemical and biological characterisation of some smart new functional materials and supramolecular flat nanostructures with vast applications in research and development of medical devices, opto-electronic devices or biosensors.

Chemistry.

Areas of expertise: Organic chemistry, ophthalmologic procedures. Biomaterials

and polymer science, especially in the understanding of biomaterials and

biocompatibility, development of polymers for intraocular implants, hydrogels,

radiation-absorbing polymers, hydrophilic sponges, artificial cornea, artificial

vitreous substitutes, calcification of polymers, interaction of laser radiation with

polymers, photoresponsive polymers, sustained release of bioactive agents,

tissue engineering, and the use of polymers in genetic therapies. He developed

an artificial cornea, which is currently used in blind patients with significant

clinical success. One of his recent research interests consists of the mechanism of

spontaneous calcification of hydrogels, an issue of importance in the medical

applications of polymers.
