    EXAMINATION REGULATIONS

    Taking your ACCA exams is part of your journey towards becoming an ACCA professional accountant and we therefore expect you to act in a professional manner when taking your exams. The following ruleson conduct apply to students completing projects or sitting paper-based and computer-based exams, as well as those taking internally-assessed ACCA courses.

    1 You are required to comply in all respects with anyinstructions issued by the registrar, exam supervisor andinvigilators before and during an exam.

    2 You may not attempt to deceive the registrar or the examsupervisor by giving false or misleading information.

    3 If you are given reading time at the beginning of the exam,you are not allowed to open or write on your answer bookletuntil the supervisor tells you to do so at the end of thereading time. You are, however, permitted to write on yourquestion paper.

    4 If you are given reading time at the beginning of the exam,the exam is considered to be in progress from the start of thereading time.

    5 You are not allowed to take to your exam desk any books,notes or other materials except those authorised by theregistrar. These are known as 'unauthorised materials'.

    6 You are not allowed to possess any unauthorised materialswhile the exam is in progress (whether at your desk orotherwise).

    7 You are not permitted to:

    use a dictionary or an electronic translator of any kind have on your desk, a calculator which can store or

    display text

    use or have on or at your desk a mobile phone or pagerof any kind. Any kept in bags or briefcases must beswitched off at all times in the examination hall.

    8 You are not allowed to use, or attempt to use, or intend touse, any unauthorised materials while the exam is inprogress.

    9 If you breach exam regulation 5, 6, 7 or 8, and theunauthorised materials are relevant to the syllabus beingexamined, it will be assumed that you intended to use themto gain an unfair advantage in the exam. In any subsequentdisciplinary proceedings, you will have to prove that you didnot intend to use the unauthorised materials to gain anunfair advantage in the exam.

    10 You may not assist, attempt to assist, obtain or attempt toobtain assistance by improper means from any other personduring your exams.

    11 You are required to adhere at all times to the Examination

    Guidelines, below.

    12 You are required to comply with the exam supervisor'sruling. Supervisors are obliged to report any cases ofirregularity or improper conduct to the registrar. Thesupervisor is empowered to discontinue your exam ifyou are suspected of misconduct and to exclude youfrom the exam hall.

    13 You may not engage in any other unprofessionalconduct designed to assist you in your exam attempt.

    14 You are not permitted to remove either your candidateanswer booklet(s) or your question paper from theexam hall. All exam candidate answer booklets remainthe property of ACCA.

    15 Once the exam has started, you are not allowed toleave the exam hall permanently until the end of thesession and then only when instructed by thesupervisor.

    16 If you attempt to gain an unfair advantage in the exam(whether by breaching an exam regulation orotherwise) you are likely to be removed from ACCA'sstudent register following disciplinary proceedings.

    17 Candidates must not talk to, or attempt tocommunicate with, other candidates during the examunder any circumstances.

    EXAMINATION GUIDELINES

    Before the Examination

    You must only sit the paper(s) chosen by you and shown on thisdocument.

    You must only sit at the examination centre shown on thisdocument.

    You must retain this document and take it with you to theexamination centre where:

    it will ensure your entry to the examination

    it will be used to record your attendance at theexamination

    it will be retained by the centre supervisor after your lastexamination in the session.

    You must not make any additional markings on this document.

    In addition to this document, you must also take an officialmeans of photographic identity, such as your passport, drivinglicence or national identity card, to the examination centre. Ifyou are unable to prove your identity your candidate answerbooklet(s) may not be marked.

    You must pay close attention to the supervisor's announcementsat the beginning of each examination. This will includeimportant information relating to safety within the examinationhall. You must also ensure that you know where the fire exitsare.

    Each desk in the examination hall is numbered; you must ensurethat you are sitting at the correct desk by referring to the desknumber shown on this document. If you are taking more thanone paper, please note that your desk number may vary frompaper to paper and if you do not sit at the correct desk yourcandidate answer booklet(s) may be rendered invalid.

    During the Examination

    You must ensure that you arrive on time for your examination(s)as you will not be given extra time if you are late.

    All three hour examinations include 15 minutes of reading andplanning time, starting at the time stated on this docket. Duringreading and planning time, you may annotate your questionpaper but cannot open or write on your answer booklet.

    The supervisor will not allow you to enter the examination hallafter the first hour of the examination.

    You are not permitted to leave the hall permanently until the endof the session.

    If you are required to leave the hall for a short period at anytime, you will be escorted by an invigilator.

    You may take to your desk:

    rulers, pens, pencils and an eraser

    geometrical instruments and charting templates

    a noiseless, cordless pocket calculator which may beprogrammable but which must not have a printout orgraphic/word display facility in any language

    a small bottle of water or soft drink, all labels removed. Noother drinks or food are permitted.

    You must leave all bags and briefcases at a point indicated bythe supervisor. This includes mobile phones and pagers. ACCAcannot accept responsibility for the theft, loss of, or damage to,any items left in the examination hall, therefore you are advisednot to bring any items of value to the centre.

    Before the examination begins you must complete the followingdetails on the front of your candidate answer booklet in blackballpoint pen :

    Your registration number and name

    Your desk number

    Your centre/hall code number

    Your exam paper number and version (where appropriate)

    Before the end of the exam you must also indicate thequestion numbers you have attempted on the front cover ofthe booklet(s) and in the space provided at the top of eachpage within the booklet(s).

    You must also ensure that you include these details on anycontinuation booklet(s) which may be given to you during the

    examination and note that no extra time is allowed for this at theend of the examination.

    You must use only black ballpoint pen to complete your answersin your candidate answer booklet(s).

    You must ensure that you have been given the correctexamination paper by comparing the front cover of yourexamination paper with the paper designation code on thisdocument.

    No smoking is allowed in the examination hall.

    ACCA does not implement a dress code for its examinations.However, you should dress for your examination(s) in a mannerwhich will not cause offence to your fellow candidates.

    Before, during and after your examination(s), you must notbehave in a manner which will distract your fellow candidates.Inappropriate behaviour will be reported to ACCA by thesupervisor.

    You must not open your question paper or start writing in youranswer booklet until you are instructed to do so by thesupervisor.

    It is in your direct interest to show your rough workingsfor each question in your answer booklet(s). This willhelp the marker accurately assess your performance inthe examination. You must also start each question on anew page and indicate the question number in thespace provided at the top of the page.

    Stop writing as soon as the supervisor ends theexamination. Do not then leave your desk until thesupervisor permits you to do so.

    After the Examination

    Submit your completed answer booklet(s), questionpaper and any unused stationery to theinvigilator/supervisor at the end of the examination. Noitem of stationery is to be removed from the exam hall.

    The June and December examination results will beavailable on myACCA and by email or SMS on 8 Augustand 8 February, respectively. Make sure you can accessyour exam results as soon as they are available byregistering to receive your results by email or SMS.Simply log on to myACCA and update your preferenceand contact details within 'account administration'. Youcan only sign up for one of these services.

    Your worked candidate answer booklet(s) remain theproperty of ACCA and will not be returned to you.

    Your examination entry fees are not refundable ortransferable.

    NOTE TO CANDIDATES SITTING IN GHANA

    You are requested by the West African ExaminationsCouncil to produce your identification card or passportat the examination centres Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi.

    Failure to do so will result in you not being allowed intothe examination hall.

    NOTE TO CANDIDATES SITTING AT SPECIALEXAMINATION CENTRES

    If you are sitting at a designated Special Centre, pleasepay all invigilation and accommodation fees directly tothe local supervisor before the date of the examination.If you are unable to sit the examination for which youhave entered, please advise the local supervisor in goodtime and pay whatever cancellation fees may beappropriate.
