Building futures since 1988.The Accelerated Degree Completion Program provides adult learners a unique opportunity to complete their associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a way that allows for the balance of educational pursuits with commitments to family, work, and the community. Established in 1988 as the first accredited and expedited degree program in Connecticut, the University of Bridgeport’s Accelerated Degree Completion Program has assisted thousands of adults in completing their bachelor’s degree and advancing their careers to increase both their earning potential personal satisfaction.

The program’s select team of admissions counselors and academic advisors simplify your path toward returning to college and completing your degree. Paired with quality instruction, the Accelerated Degree completion program is designed to meet both your life and workplace demands.

Convenient and FlexibleCourses are conveniently scheduled in the evenings and on weekends, with some programs available online. Classes are offered in both five- and eight-week terms, twelve times throughout the calendar year, allowing you to complete your degree faster than you ever though possible.

AccreditationThe University of Bridgeport is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Connecticut Office of Higher Education.

Quality EducationThe Accelerated Degree Completion Program’s continuing education courses are designed to help students develop and demonstrate skills and abilities in four major areas: communication, problem solving, interpersonal relations, and critical thinking.

Transfer CreditsThe Accelerated Degree Completion Program offers degrees with multiple options for transfer of credits from prior education, work experience, military service, and competency exams. The maximum of 66 credits may be transferred in from an accredited two-year school and 90 credits from an accredited four-year school.

Tuition AssistanceFinancial aid in the form of grants and student loans is available through the Accelerated Degree Completion Program. Other assistance includes veteran benefits, tuition reimbursement (if applicable), and monthly payment plans.

The Accelerated Degree Program’s online offerings allow continuing education students to complete a bachelor’s degree with the flexibility of online learning. Online courses follow an accelerated eight-week format, allowing students to earn their degree at a full-time pace while maintaining a professional work schedule or family life. Courses are accessible anytime, anywhere.

General Studies (B.S.)—Social ScienceThe Bachelor of Science in General Studies with a concentration in Social Science is offered entirely online. The courses are designed to be learner-centered in terms of scheduling, learning materials, assignments, and student interaction with both faculty and fellow students. The online program is perfect for the busy adult learner with its flexible scheduling and supportive staff.

Professional Studies (B.S.)The Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies is a career-focused program that refines student skills and abilities for application in a broad range of professions. The accelerated program is designed to provide students with organizational leadership, technical and analytical skills, communication, and professional development skills valued by employers and required in today’s management positions.

Healthcare AdministrationThe Healthcare Administration concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies degree will help students manage the business side of healthcare. The program explores the different ways healthcare is delivered and managed, including regulatory, technological, financial, and administrative factors in the context of a rapidly-changing healthcare industry.

Human Resource AdministrationThe Human Resource Administration concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies degree will help the student cultivate a work environment that steers the organization toward its objective. The areas of employee relations, recruitment, staffing, benefits, outsourcing, and safety will be explored to improve the work experience for all employees.

Organizational Leadership & Change The Organizational Leadership & Change concentration of the Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies degree identifies the challenges and opportunities of today’s ever-changing work environment. Professionals will explore various leadership theories and practices to develop valuable team-building, strategic planning, and communication. Whether an organization is a new startup, a family business, or a Fortune 500 company, this degree will help students navigate rapid technological, regulatory, and societal changes.

PROFESSIONAL STUDIES (B.S.) CONCENTRATIONS:

General Studies (A.A.) The Associate in Arts in General Studies degree meets the needs of adult students who seek preparation for a professional career and opens the possibility for further study. The curriculum provides a foundation within the academic disciplines of communications, social sciences, life sciences, and the humanities. Instruction focuses on communication, critical thinking, and reading skills, and fosters a philosophical orientation that enables students to perform as a creative member of society.

General Studies (B.S.) —Business ConcentrationThe B.S. in General Studies with a Business Concentration degree is designed specifically to meet the needs of adult students pursuing a high quality bachelor’s degree program and seeking maximum flexibility and breadth in their studies. The business concentration encompasses all areas of business: management, marketing, accounting, information systems, economics, and finance.

General Studies (B.S.) —Social Science ConcentrationThe B.S. in General Studies with a Social Science Concentration is designed specifically to meet the needs of adult students pursuing a high quality bachelor’s degree and seeking maximum flexibility and breadth in their studies. The Social Science concentration embraces the traditional subjects that form a shared intellectual heritage of our diverse culture and is particularly focused in the areas of interpersonal communication, group dynamics, a global historical viewpoint, human services, and social psychology.

Human Services (B.S.)The Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services program provides the academic and practical experience necessary to enter the field of human services. The combination of academic theoretical coursework and its application through supervised fieldwork experience provides students with the preparation necessary for employment in a wide range of human service agencies and community organizations. The program is designed for students who are interested in working in human service agencies and community organizations, or who wish to advance their education through higher education in psychology, teaching, counseling, social work, or law.

Human Services/Psychology (B.S. Double Major)The B.S. in Human Services and Psychology degree is an outstanding opportunity for a challenging interdisciplinary experience. Both programs provide a solid foundation in psychological, social, and developmental theory. In completing this major, students are fully prepared to pursue careers in social services agencies or to seek graduate study.

Psychology (B.S.)The B.S. in Psychology degree addresses the general areas of developmental, personality, social, cognitive, and abnormal psychology. The program fosters the development of verbal, quantitative, analytical, and technological skills that are useful for work in psychology and related fields such as law, education, or social work.

The University has been the recipient of the national Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award for its innovative Personal Alarm Locator (PAL) system.
