Package tests
Test moments
– Ability to open the first time
– Ability to take the right dose
– Ability to close
– Ability to do every step in opening and handling the specific package
APPROVED
The results from the
test panel calibrates
with a 100-groups
result
All handle moments
must reach at least
level 5 on a scale from
0-9 to be approved
Aimed scope
The aimed scope in the
first step of the guideline
These packages:
•Supports alternative grips
•Does not cause any decisive pain
•Accepts reduced grip ability
•Can be handled with reduced
hand and grip strength

Problem identification while handling
packages
Part 1 – Reduced hand capability
A brief presentation of an investigation made by About Design for The Swedish Rheumatism
Association and the Swedish Handicap Institute
The transportation security of the
package
The tamper evidence of the package
(especially when this is combined with
the transportation security)
Difficult grips
– The size, design and
characteristics of the surfaces
– No support for alternative grips
– Incorrect grips
Qualitatively bad functionality
To large need of force
Complicated movement patterns
The access of the opening arrangement
To hold during the handling
What makes it so difficult?
Generally an improved qualitative functionality is needed
There should always be a support of alternative grips
Double sealing must be eliminated
Round design must be avoid concerning packages with twist movements
Generally an decreased need of force
Help the grips with the design
Avoid precision grips
The use of helping equipment must always be a last way out
Decisively improve the access of the opening arrangement
Minimize all need of movement

• The survey done by TEMO shows that: • One an a half million people in Sweden has impaired function of the hand. • The most important property of a package is according to the Swedes, that it is easy to open, easy to reseal and simple to completely empty.
• Activists have also carried out 4 surveys in order to gather relevant facts which will enhance our cause
