At The University of Manchester you have a great choice of accommodation, fromtraditional, collegiate-style halls of residenceto self-catering flats with en-suite facilities.We hope the Open House will give you aninsight into life in the different halls we offer,and help you decide which type suits you best.

you can choose which halls to visit on the day – all University undergraduate hallswill be open to view. With so many options, it may not be practical to see all ofthem in one day. It might be useful to look at the living in manchester Guide orvisit: www.manchester.ac.uk/accommodation before the open House, to tryand create a shortlist of halls to view that you think might be suitable for you. Wesuggest you visit a few different types of residences – for example, catered andself-catered, en-suite and shared facilities – you might be surprised at what youend up liking the best.

ADvICE AND INfOrMATION

Throughout the day, you’ll haveplenty of opportunities to askstaff and current studentsquestions about theaccommodation we offer, at thevarious halls and at the centralInformation point.

The central Information pointwill operate from the Welcomedesk in University place onOxford Road. staff from theAccommodation Office and theUndergraduate AdmissionsOffice will be there to respondto your enquiries, andrepresentatives fromassociated accommodationservices will also be present,including hall pastoral teams,catering, sport, and IT.

UNIvErSITy HAllS

At each hall you’ll be able to seethe facilities available, includingstudy bedrooms and flats. Youcan chat with residents,members of the hall’s Juniorcommon Room or Residents’Association who organise hallsocials and sporting activities,and the pastoral teams whoprovide 24-hour welfaresupport at University halls.students and staff will be happy to answer any questionsyou have.

Ashburne Hall, Fallowfield campus

on ARRIVAlyou don’t need to register for the open House – just turn up onthe day. When you arrive, go straight to the halls of your choice,catch the free shuttle bus at any one of the designated stops, or go to the Visitors centre on oxford Road. If you’re arriving inmanchester city centre, it may save time to visit the halls nearmanchester Piccadilly station on city campus (north) first.

vISITOr PArkINGCITy CAMPUS (NOrTH)

There is a multi-storey car parkon charles street, next toWeston Hall and close to theWright Robinson Halls ofResidence.

CITy CAMPUS (SOUTH)

There are car parks on Boothstreet East and Booth streetWest, close to the centralInformation point and visitorscentre at University place.

vICTOrIA PArk ANDfAllOwfIElD CAMPUSES

Most halls have their own carparking areas and ample freestreet parking is available closeby. Additionally there is a largefree car park at the Armitagesports centre on the fallowfield campus.

ACCESSIblE TrAvEl

A fully wheelchair accessiblecoach is also available on theday. If you wish to use thisfacility, please speak to amember of staff at the visitorscentre on arrival, and they willmake appropriatearrangements.

PUblIC bUS SErvICES

All student residence areas havefrequent bus services, withspecial student fares availableduring term time. The followingservices operate betweenpiccadilly Bus station and theUniversity, travelling alongOxford Road to the fallowfieldcampus: 41, 42, 43, 44, 48, 142,143 and 157.

GETTING ArOUND SHUTTlE bUS

A free shuttle bus service willoperate between the main areasof residence from 10am until4pm. The first buses will leavethe city campus (north) shuttlestop and from Armitage sportscentre in fallowfield at 10amand run in circular loops,stopping at marked locationsalong the route. full details ofthe shuttle bus service will beavailable on the day from thevisitors centre.

please be aware that buses dobecome busy at certain pointsduring the day so walkingbetween halls or travelling bycar may be preferable. Many ofthe halls are within comfortablewalking distance of each other,and parking is available at, ornear, most halls.

ON CAMPUS

café Eros in University place will be open offering a wideselection of hot and cold mealsand refreshments, all preparedby our catering team. AshburneHall, Woolton Hall, TowerRestaurant and sOURcE caféon the fallowfield campus, andDalton Ellis Hall and Hulme Hallon the victoria park campus willall be serving light refreshmentsthroughout the day.

Off CAMPUS

There are plenty of cafes, barsand restaurants in the immediatevicinity of all halls and also withinwalking distance of the visitorscentre, University place.

If you decide to make a weekendof your visit, there are plenty ofplaces to stay in Manchester.You may wish to stay in theUniversity’s very own three starhotel, chancellors. It is set infive acres of landscapedgrounds, adjacent to thefallowfield campus and onlythree miles from the city centre.special discounted rates areavailable for Open Housevisitors. mAkInG A Weekendof yoUR VIsIT

sPoRTsfAcIlITIesYou are welcome to take a look at some of the University sports facilities duringyour Open House visit. for tours of any of the facilities listed below, please go toreception and the staff there will give youaccess if possible. please note that pre-booked events and sessions may meanyou are unable to view all sports facilities.

MANCHESTEr AqUATICS CENTrE

The centre was opened in 2000 for use during the commonwealth Games.Incorporating a full-sized Olympicswimming pool and other fitness facilities, it is located in the centre of city campus on Oxford Road.

THE SUGDEN SPOrTS CENTrE

This busy sports centre offers a range of activities in its indoor sports halls,weight and fitness areas and multi-activityrooms. like the Aquatics centre, it’sconveniently located just off Oxford Road.

THE ArMITAGE SPOrTS CENTrE

This centre is located on the fallowfieldcampus and offers indoor sports halls andcourts, an extensively equipped fitnesssuite, as well as all-weather and grassedpitches for a variety of sports.

The online application formshould be straightforward, but if

you experience any difficultiesor have any queries whencompleting it, please contactthe Accommodation Office(contact details below).

In your application, you will beasked to select your top threepreferred halls. Every effort willbe made to offer you a place atone of your preferred halls, and80% of applicants are offered aplace in a hall of their choice.

However, you should be awarethat we cannot guarantee thatyou will be offered a place in one

of your preferred halls. certainhalls are extremely popular andin some cases we may have tooffer an alternative.
