    INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION

Accommodation of services is very important during designstage.

A proper planning is needed in order to ensure the safety and

location of the services are strategic and easy to be foreseen bythe people in the building.

Each building will not provided adequate functionality if theservices is not accommodated in the right way.

Accommodation of services is very important to ensure the safetyof the services.

Method of installation also plays an important role to ensure

    adequate functionality

    ProvisionofServices

    Above the structural slab

    - electrical conduit laid on top of slab after it is cast

    - top screeding must be thick enough to bring finish

floor level above that of the conduit

    - fibre or metal under floor ducting for electrical

especially telephone wiring may be used

    - to reduce weight use lightweight concrete or

    foamed mortar

    ProvisionofServices

Below the slab or below it supporting beam

    - ribs or secondary beams on the underside

of the floor pipes may be suspended fromthe slab or rib soffit

    - concealed with suspended ceiling at the

level of the rib or beam soffit

    Service Ducts

Ducts for service pipes and cables must run

both vertically and horizontally through the

    building.

The horizontal ducts usually follow route of

corridors to allow ease of access, and may

be between false ceiling and the structural

    floor.

    ELECTRICAL PROTECTIONELECTRICAL PROTECTION

By providing continuous channels in or on the walls andfloors of the building, formed during construction. They

    may be formed by:

    i. In parts of the building structure, in the form of ducts, channels and chases.

ii. By shallow metal or fibre ducts and later covered with

    concrete screed of plaster.

    iii. Running special trunking.

By providing the cables themselves with

    sufficiently strong protection sheath of

suitable material. Types of sheating are:

    Tough rubber sheath

    Polychloroprene sheating

    Plastic sheating Lead alloy sheating

    BUSBAR TRUNKING SYSTEM

Busbar trunking system is a totally enclosedelectrical distribution system comprising solidconductors separated by insulating materials.

    BUSBAR TRUNKING

    Distribution Trunking

    i. Usually applied to distribute power over apredetermined area.

    ii.

The busbar trunking can be run vertically orhorizontally or a combination of both.

iii. Power is taken from the busbar trunking by the use oftap off units which connect at defined positions alongthe busbar trunking and allow power to be taken form

the system usually via a suitable protective device.

    AIR CONDITIONINGAIR CONDITIONING

Air conditioning is the control of temperature and humidity in a

building as well as the cleaning of particles from the air.

The type of air-conditioning system that is being studied is

    Split Unit System.

As the name suggests, a split system is an air conditionerwhich has been 'split' into two sections - an indoor 'evaporator'

unit and an outdoor 'condenser' section.

There are several accommodation method adopted for air-

    conditioning :

    i. Ducting

    ii. Concealed installation

    DUCTING

Air conditioning ducts are the most cost effective and

efficient method of conveying cold air from point to

point, and distributing it where its needed.

Air conditioning ducts are manufactured from

lightweight polythene, and are compatible with most

air conditioners, evaporative cooler and fans.
