Accord Saloon Rear bumper removal to fit Taurus T123 Reverse Parking Sensor 

 

Tools and items needed; 

Phillips screw driver, 2 small flat head screwdrivers, 10mm socket & ratchet, cloths, cleaning solvents, big rubber mat or something to rest the bumper on, crimping tool, gaffer tape, test meter, car panel clip removal tool. 

 

Start by removing the plastic caps covering the 10mm bolts near the light cluster. 

 

 

Now in each wheel arch there are 2 cross head screws to remove. One is at the very top of the wheel arch and the other is half way down the edge of the bumper. 

 

And the next is lower down the bumper edge.... 

 

 

Then there are 2 plastic clips under the middle of the bumper around the center of the bumper at the back of the car. 

 

There are also 2 torx head screws on the bottom side edges of the bumper, DON’T touch these. They are holding in strengthening bars, you will see them once the bumper is off. 

Now start gently pulling at the edges of the bumper and the section around the boot opening in order to release the bumper from its retainer clips. 

 

Then start to pull the bumper backwards, away from the car, in the middle of the bumper where the boot opening is and this will ease the bumper off the car. 

 

 

Now the bumper is off it needs cleaning. 

 

I also cleaned the areas on the car where the bumper fits just so it’s all clean for putting it back together and I’m a bit fastidious about cleaning things in order to keep them looking their best. 

Once I did this I liad the bumper down and started cleaning up the area I was sticking the metal strip to, I used PC contact cleaner but anything that removes oils and has alcohol in it should be fine. 

 

I cleaned the top part of the bumper about 10 cms from the top lip and down about 20 cms. 

 

Then stick the metal strip on the bumper. Use gaffa tape on the edges to hold it in place. 

 

 

I then used one of the grommits in the back panel to pull the wire throught that connects the metal strip to the control bax. I pulled off the corner of the carpet to get at the inside of the grommet. 

 

I then put the bumper back on.  

Then I pulled away the carpet from the boot lid on the left to get to the reverse light wires. I pulled a cable through the boot lid arm from the reverse light to the reverse control module for power. This gives the reverse module it’s power everytime you go into reverse gear. 

 

 

 

 

The picture above shows the connector to the reverse light. Green is live and black is earth. 

I then wired everything up, popped the tiny speaker in the rear of the car, and started to test the reverse sensor. 

After a nice cleanup and wash the car looks fine, no scratches and no stupid round sensors in the bumper. A few tests show it’s working fine and on its STOP signal you have roughly 6 inches between the bumper and the object...perfect.
