We aRe heRe
This unique sheltered housing scheme is located in the beautiful village of Malin on the Inishowen Peninsula and consists of 20 wheel chair accessible, one and two bed single storey homes. A central day centre provides community facilities in the form of an oratory for prayer and reflection, a fully staffed catering facility provides a prepared meal at lunchtime Monday to Friday if residents so desire* (excluding public holidays). A lounge and entrance conservatory provide a place to relax and enjoy the company and fellowship of other residents.
The VisionMichael Connolly left his native Co. Mayo and emigrated to England where he settled in Luton and met his beloved Kathleen a native of Malin. Michael’s hard work and tenacity brought business success in the form of Connolly Homes Plc located in Luton Beds and further success with Dingles Builders (NI) Ltd in Holywood Co. Down. Kathleen whilst supporting her husband also served for a number of years as a councillor on Luton Borough Council. Through their joint experience of life and having witnessed the housing hardship and isolation experienced by the elderly they decided to put back into the community they left in Ireland and also to help the community
The untimely death of Kathleen in 1999 meant that Kathleen never got to see this vision come true. But Michael took great solace and comfort from making the vision a reality and it stands as a fitting tribute to his much loved wife Kathleen. Their success gave them the opportunity to purchase Malin Hall and farm, which offered them a place they could come and relax close to Kathleen’s roots. It seemed only natural to share part of this in their vision therefore the land on which the scheme was built forms part of the estate.
The formation of the ‘Kathleen and Michael Connolly’ charitable foundation was followed by the hard work and dedication of the trustees to make the vision a reality. A number of trustees are still involved on the daily or weekly basis in the management of the foundation and its ongoing good works.
Funding for the scheme was provided by Michael via the foundation and also by grant assistance from the Department of the Environment. Ongoing support is gratefully received from the HSE and FAS also provide support with staffing.

The Homes are on the edge of the village, within the grounds of Malin Hall and are nestling between the mature woodland and extensive park land of Malin Hall farm, a working livestock farm. The homes enjoy truly spectacular views of Trawbeaga Bay in the foreground and Sliabh Sneacht in the distance on the other side of the bay, the inhabitants state that snow remains upon it ‘tall the May of Carne’, and that is why it is called the Mountain of Snow.
A private scenic wood land footpath links the homes to the village, Malin itself is a picturesque village with a tree lined diamond forming its centre, and it is easy to see why it was a Tidy Town Winner on two occasions (1970 &1991) and runner up in 2002. The village has a number of shops, a post office and hotel, all within walking distance of each other.
Malin is only 6.4km (4 miles) away from the town of Carndonagh which offers a more extensive range of shops, banks, and medical facilities. Further afield the city of Derry just over border in Northern Ireland is 39km (24 miles) away offering a vast array of shops with all the major UK and international retailers represented. The city of Derry airport is located on the outskirts and the Belfast International and George Best City Airports are also accessible via road and rail links. The provincial towns of Letterkenny and Donegal Town are easily reached by road, as are Coleraine and the beautiful North Antrim Coast with its world famous Giants Causeway via the Greencastle to Magilligan ferry**.
