ACEL tas awards 2017 ACEL TAS AWARDS 2017 A highlight of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders Tasmanian Branch (ACEL TAS) is the Annual Awards Presentation. ACEL TAS honours educational leaders who have made a significant contribution to the improvement of student and organisational outcomes. The Awards are presented at the ACEL TAS Annual Awards Function, which in 2017 will be held on 29 June in Hobart. The ACEL TAS Awards Committee invites and encourages members of ACEL to nominate worthy educators so that they can receive well-deserved recognition for their exemplary leadership and significant service to education. The ACEL TAS Awards committee will evaluate nominations with respect to the essential criteria and against the Australian Professional Teacher and Principal Standards. Confidentiality

The award nomination process is confidential until it is completed and nominations have been approved.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee will review all nominations that have followed the appropriate format and are received by the required date. This Committee will confirm nominations that meet all criteria and where necessary seek further information in order to reach a decision.

Award notification

Excellence in Educational Leadership Award

Up to three Awards may be presented.

Award[s] are presented each year to an educator or group of educators who have demonstrated excellent leadership in implementing an educational initiative or conducting research which leads to improved educational outcomes for students within local educational settings.

This certificate of recognition is designed to enable line managers to nominate staff for their exemplary work within their area of responsibility. It is aimed at a variety of leadership contexts be it classroom, faculty, school, tertiary, system or consultancy.

Essential criteria are:

• A significant contribution to the professional learning of others.

• Recognition as an enthusiastic and committed driver of change.

• Building purposeful internal and external relationships.

Early Career Teacher Leadership Award

This award provides teachers who are in the early stages of their career, generally in their first five years, with recognition for their excellent contribution to education in Tasmania.

Essential criteria are: The improvement of student outcomes through

• Exemplary teaching practice

• A contribution to leading the professional learning of others

• Building purposeful internal and external relationships

Outstanding Leadership in Education in Tasmania Award

This prestigious annual ACEL Award provides a unique opportunity to acknowledge the work of an outstanding Tasmanian educational leader whose achievements have shown exceptional merit including contributing significantly to the work and vision of ACEL.

Evidence mapped against the Australian Professional Teachers/Principals Framework would essentially include:

• A significant contribution to the demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning for self.

• An inspirational and influential leader of others at state and national levels.

• Demonstrated high level commitment to achieving improved educational outcomes for broad cohorts of students.

ACEL TAS Fellowship

This award aims to recognise Tasmanian educational leaders who have made a broad contribution to the improvement of student and organisational outcomes at the local level and beyond and have contributed significantly to the work and vision of ACEL.

Criteria to address:

• A demonstrated high level of commitment to achieving improved educational outcomes.

• A significant contribution to the professional learning of others.

• High level leadership capabilities including inspiring, influencing and creatively implementing change.

• A significant contribution to the practice and/or theory of educational leadership within their workplace and at system, state and/or national, level.

• Contributions to ACEL.

Nominees will normally be ACEL members of at least five years standing. The Branch Awards Committee may waive this condition and accept a shorter period of membership for qualification in the light of special circumstances or other evidence provided.

Members receiving Fellowship are permitted to use the post-nominal FACEL (Tas) after their name.

ACEL TAS Honorary Fellowship

An ACEL TAS Honorary Fellowship may be conferred on persons who are not ACEL members, but who are acknowledged as outstanding leaders in the practice and/or theory of educational leadership. The criteria are the same as the first four of the Branch Fellowships.

Criteria to address:

• A demonstrated high level commitment to achieving educational outcomes.

• A significant contribution to the professional learning of others.

• High level leadership capabilities including inspiring, influencing and creatively implementing change.

• A significant contribution to the practice and/or theory of educational leadership within their workplace and at system, state and/or national, level.

Those receiving this award are permitted to use the post-nominal FACEL (Tas Hon) after their name.
