Welcome to Crewe University Technical College (UTC). We are an Engineering and Design college dedicated to offering opportunities to students in these specialisms. Since our opening in 2016, many of our Alumni have gone on to study and work towards Higher and Degree Apprenticeships with our Employer Partners. Having opened within the Oakley Centre, renamed the Francis Webb building, our school facilities include the Joseph Locke building in which our Maths, English and Science classes take place. Whilst the Francis Webb building houses our Engineering Workshop and Design Suite.

As a student at Crewe UTC, you’ll get the best of both worlds, study a range of A-Level, BTEC, and Cambridge Technical subjects and choose a pathway leading directly to a career within your chosen Engineering, Design or Digital specialism. All this takes place in a vibrant school environment with cutting edge facilities.

Our Employer Partners will offer you advice and guidance throughout your time at Crewe UTC therefore setting you apart when it’s time to attend university and job interviews. We ensure you leave equipped to face the world of work with the confidence, skills, knowledge, and thirst for learning to “Achieve Your Outstanding”. We would love to give you a tour of our facilities, so come and take a look and find out more about us as you may be part of our September intake.

“The College is TRANSFORMING Pupils’ lives.”Many come to the college with poor experiences of schooling. Leaders and staff help pupils to settle quickly into Year 10 and Year 12. Pupils spoke highly of the support that they receive. A typical comment was, ‘There is mutual respect with staff.’ The specialist facilities and excellent links with the engineering, manufacturing, and design sectors enable pupils to thrive in these subjects”.

What is a UTC?

University Technical Colleges (UTCs)

are government-funded schools which enrol students aged 13-19

years old.

UTCs provide opportunities to specialise in subject

areas – in our case, Engineering and Design.

These colleges teach a curriculum that includes

technical specialisms which are supported by employers and a local

university.

With high standards, the latest technology and cutting edge facilities, UTCs will inform and

inspire students through a practical approach.

We prepare students for the world of work and

the jobs of tomorrow, by partnering with businesses,

universities and industry bodies to offer a unique educational experience.

UTC students graduate with industry-specific knowledge and skills,

thanks to a guaranteed involvement with local

enterprises and universities – giving you a competitive

edge when entering the world of work or applying

to university.

Why us?

Vision

At Crewe UTC we want our students to be able to plan their futures. We have designed career focused pathways that will provide students with the knowledge and skills they can use in future employment.

Crewe UTC aims to be the education provider of choice for Engineering and Design, offering students unique learning experiences, opportunities and guidance on the employment, apprenticeships, or university pathways.

Our Motto is “Achieve Your Outstanding”

What is the Sixth Form Curriculum? When it comes to choosing your Sixth Form options, many people will tell you to choose the subjects you enjoy and that interest you – which is good advice. But, it’s also important to think further ahead and to consider what you might like to do in the future. It’s scary to realise that the choices you make now will influence the choices you are able to make at the end of your A-Levels. In turn, this filters into which degree courses, jobs, and apprenticeships are open to you at the end of your time with us. Also, it justifies why having the right information now will give you more options when the time comes.

For some degrees/ jobs, you will need to have studied a particular subject or a range of subjects beforehand. It’s our job to help you make decisions that will make this transition easier. We need to be sure that the subjects you take equip you for your chosen university

course, apprenticeship or career path – or show off your skills in a particular subject area. Most importantly, if you haven’t yet decided what you would like to do in the longer term, we can advise you on the subjects that help keep your options open until you do.

We have worked closely with our partners to cover the key skills, experiences, and attributes needed for a future in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Our students have everything at their fingertips to make an informed decision about the best route and how to play to their personal strengths. ‘Every day is an interview’ at Crewe UTC, and this applies to all aspects of our school life. Our students are treated as adults and are encouraged to demonstrate maturity, passion, and commitment at every level in their journey.

The Engineering and Design Sector in Crewe Cutting Edge FacilitiesFor many years since the 19th century, Crewe has built a reputation as one of the world’s greatest railway workshops. Its railway junctions and Crewe Works have allowed this small railway town to host major railway engineering facilities for manufacturing and overhauling elegant locomotives. Additionally, Crewe has garnered a reputation within the automotive industry as it is home to the Pyms Lane factory on the west of the town which was once home to Rolls-Royce. This factory now exclusively produces Bentley Motor cars.

Our student engineers will be nurtured by staff members who deliver the relevant and stimulating curriculum through engaging and empowering learning styles. Our students are learning to solve contemporary engineering challenges using leading-edge technologies and Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) with software such as SolidWorks. Students will also experience Virtual and Augmented reality often used to deliver training and minimise risk within the manufacturing industry.

Coming from a learning environment which models the best professional practice in the fields of advanced engineering, design, and manufacturing, our student engineers graduate with academic qualifications. This achievement is in addition to professional characteristics and personal qualities that render them as highly valued employees, researchers and future leaders in engineering.

The learner experience at Crewe UTC is designed to nurture independence, initiative, and aspiration. As a consequence, students leaving the college will be characterised as young people with strong ambition and a sense of purpose, who drive themselves to learn, achieve and operate within a secure framework of personal and social values.
