Celebrating 34 Years

Nevada Women’s Fund Newsletter 6-Fall 2016

Nevada Women’s Fund history of

giving totals more than $7 million

Since 1982, the Nevada Women’s Fund has distributed more than

$7.1 million in scholarships and grants to improve the lives of women

and their families in Nevada. In the Fund’s 34-year history, more than

1,550 women have received individual scholarships and countless

families have been positively impacted through community grants to

151 non-profit organizations in the Silver State.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our organization’s long history of

providing scholarships to women in Nevada and awarding grants to

community organizations that serve the needs of our local families

and seniors,” said Nevada Women’s Fund President Isabelle Rodri-

guez Wilson. “We are fortunate to have donors who have supported

our efforts for decades and that the community continues to embrace

our mission of inspiring achievement. Together we are creating op-

portunities for so many women and families in Nevada.”

This year, community grants totaling $65,000 were awarded to six

different local organizations selected by Nevada Women’s Fund and

three others directed by donors to specific groups. The Nevada Wom-

en’s Fund allocates community grants to organizations addressing

physical and mental health, aging and violence prevention. It’s a

competitive process as the grant awards program has gained more

attention in recent years and the many organizations in our communi-

ty seek these needed funds.

For the 2016-2017 school year, 79 Nevada women have been award-

ed scholarships totaling $178,000. Individual awards range from

$1,000 to $5,000 and will assist women pursuing degrees in a variety

of fields including nursing, medicine, criminal justice, business, sci-

ence and education. Scholarship recipients, many of whom are single

mothers, represent different backgrounds, ethnicities and ages, rang-

ing from 18 to 65.

Join us as we celebrate our 9th annual Power of the Purse on Friday, November 18th, 2016. This year’s event will be held at the

Grand Sierra Resort in the Silver State Pavilion. With over 40,000 square feet of space and a variety of new and returning ven-

dors, this year’s event is sure to be a fabulous night to remember!

Doors open at 5pm and the shopping, food and fun will go until 9pm. We are excited for you to join us

President’s Message

What an exciting time to live and work in

The Biggest Little City! Our community is

experiencing some phenomenal growth in

new businesses and entrepreneurship that

present opportunities and challenges to us

all. Here at the Nevada Women’s Fund we

couldn’t be more pleased to be a part of the

renaissance taking place in our community

as we move forward and thrive together.

As we work hard to continue to meet our

mission of inspiring achievement in wom-

en and families, I’m delighted to share that

in recent years the growth of the Nevada

Women’s Fund has been nothing short of

remarkable. This year’s Salute to Women

of Achievement luncheon was the largest

ever, hosting 1,400 in attendance; acknowl-

edging 71 honorees; and raising $236,685

to sustain the mission of the Fund.

However, that was only the luncheon! In

recent years, the Fund has grown its en-

dowment by $50,000; received $61,500 in

NWF Giving Circle pledges; $100,000 in

new restricted scholarship funding and

$428,000 in general donations!

The significant community investment

these numbers convey represents clearly

your continued passion and commitment to

the Nevada Women’s Fund, allowing us to

distribute more than $7 million to our de-

serving community since our founding in

1982.

None of this would be possible without the

generous support of so many individuals

and businesses who share our passion to

inspire achievement in women working

hard every day to make a better life. And

we couldn’t be more grateful for your con-

tinued trust in the Nevada Women’s Fund

to invest those donations wisely in the

women and families of our community and

for the benefit of us all.

Our Mission The Nevada Women’s Fund is dedicated to strengthening

its community by empowering women to improve their

lives and those of their families. We identify critical social

needs and address those needs through scholarships and

community grant making.

NWF makes inspiring achievement simple:

Make a general donation to support NWF’s

mission of inspiring achievement in

women and families.

Form a restricted scholarship in the

amount of $1,500 annually.

Become a member of the NWF Giving

Circle by making a minimum 3 year

pledge of $2,500 or more annually to

award grant funds for needed

community services.

Establish an endowment account with a

minimum and principal donation of

$10,000, held in perpetuity.

The Nevada Women’s Fund is a Nevada

corporation and IRS designated 501(c)(3) tax-

exempt organization formed to strengthen its

community through education scholarships

and community grant making. Your gener-

ous donation may be tax deductible.
