Every Week / Volume 13 Issue 20 Week Ending: 17th February 2017
As another half term draws to an end I want to say ‘thank you’ to
the whole community for your ongoing support of our school vision.
Last week’s quiz night reminded me how brilliant you parents are in
engaging with school events, I think all of us who attended had a
genuinely good time. I also want to thank parents of the netball
team who have given their support and time in driving our girls to
away events this half term.
Our staff continue to work with energy and dedication and the re-
sult is that our standards continue to improve. The leadership team
have spent time in every classroom during the last two weeks and
have also looked at children’s work in books. The progress is really
good to see at this half way point in the academic year. As you know
a whole school focus is to improve reading comprehension skills.
Many of you have attended class reading workshops this term and
we shall be holding more through the rest of the year. It would re-
ally help children of all ages to read to an adult at least once a day
over the holiday week. Children who are asked to talk in detail
about what they have read are proven to have better comprehen-
sion skills. Finally I wish all families a lovely half term break and
look forward to welcoming children back on Monday 27th February.

PTA Quiz Night:
A huge thank you to the PTA members who organised last week’s highly successful quiz night, al-
so to those parents and friends who attended. The governors and senior leaders had a competi-
tive battle of their own but in the end it was a parent team ‘Fabulous Five’ who deservedly won
the event! The children were also big winners as the event raised over £300. This is going to be
spent on upgrading the sound system in the main school hall thus making future school produc-
tions easier to hear. Thank you again to all involved!

Maths Success in Year 4!
Last Friday, four children from Year 4 competed at King
Edward’s in the prestigious Borcherd Shield maths quiz
event. Thirteen schools were in attendance and our chil-
dren did brilliantly well to come second! Congratulations to
Emma, Matilda, Kai and Tyrell for representing our school
so magnificently!
Reception Class visit the shops
The children were all very excited to go on their visit to the Co-operative food and Derek and
Pauline's Grocery shop on Tuesday and Wednesday. The children had their maps and shopping
lists so they knew where had to go and what to buy. The children found all the vegetables they
needed to make soup with.
