Successful JulEYE Education Evenings Eightyfive GPs came together over three evenings, July 10, July 17 and July 24 2014 to hear the latest development in clinical ophthalmology by our Ophthalmologists. Ophthalmic Surgery Centre, Epping Surgery Centre and Central Coast Day Hospital hosted these evenings, timed to coincide with the RANZCO Eye Foundation JulEYE public health promotion, to help GPs keep abreast of research and surgical improvements. Progress Update­ First Concrete Pour

The construction of the new Chatswood Eye Hospital has reached anew milestone on August 4 with the pouring of the first concrete slabfor the basement of the new building. “This is an exciting phase ofthe development as the site will now commence major constructionwork and start to come out of the ground“ says Carl Van Selm,Project Manager of Probuild.

The new hospital will have six operating theatres, 16 recoverytrolleys, 14 day surgery recliner chairs and four overnight beds andwill be a centre of excellence for eye surgery, operating roomtechnologies and private hospital environments. Buildingcommenced in April 2014 and is on track for completion by the endof 2015.

Featured Ophthalmologist – Dr Rajiv ShahDr Shah completed hisundergraduate medical degree atthe University of Sydney. He was amedical resident at Royal PrinceAlfred Hospital and then undertookspecialist ophthalmology training atthe Sydney Eye Hospital. Heobtained his Fellowship inGlaucoma at Moorfields EyeHospital, London which runs thebusiest tertiary glaucoma clinics in the world.

He has been a VMO at St Vincent's Hospital and BankstownHospital for the past 10 years where he has a glaucoma clinic andsurgical list at both hospitals. He is actively involved in Sydney EyeHospital registrar teaching at these institutions.He operates privatelyat the Epping Surgery Centre. Read more
