ACLU Files Same-Sex Marriage Lawsuit In Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, it's a crime for a same-sex couple to get married in another state, which the ACLU isalso looking to repeal.

"Wisconsin law subjects same-sex couples to an additional harm that is unique among states thatdeny same-sex couples the freedom to marry," the statement reads. "The only way for Wisconsincouples to get the federal protections that come with marriage is for them to go out of state tomarry. But Wisconsin law says that may be a crime punishable by nine months in jail and a $10,000fine."

The lawsuit in Wisconsin comes as the fight against same-sex marriage ban has been gainingmomentum at the state level.
