2 | PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONacouStac®
The acouStac® Variable Acoustic Banner is a motorized retractable banner that is used to control the acoustic reverberation time of a room.
acouStac® Fabric PanelThe fabric panel consists of two parallel surfaces, front and rear, made up of individual horizontal segments held together by stackers. Each stacker consists of two aluminum rails held apart by a series of clips. The stackers separate the front and rear surfaces at a fixed dimension (depth) over the full height and width of the fabric panel. The fabric chambers are 3” (7.6cm) or 6” (15.2cm) deep (formed by the stackers) and 11” (28cm) or 15” (38cm) tall (formed by the fabric segments).
Multiple fabric panels can operate from one machine using custom machine & configurations.
The fabric is 550 g/m2 (29oz) DFR Wool Serge; available in standard or custom colors.
Standard fabric panel size is up to 20ft (6.1m) wide and 20ft (6.1m) tall.
Custom sizes are available using custom machines and configurations.
The 6” (15cm) stackers provide greater acoustic absorption and add 3” (7.6cm) to the overall fabric panel depth.
The acouStac® Fabric Panel is certified by an independent laboratory insuring that it has been testedin accordance with the “Sound Absorption Coefficient by Reverberation Room Method” (ASTM C423-07).
Control Systems - refer to the acouTroL section for additional details• acouTroL Cambia - a simple push button controller for basic up/down operation.• acouTroL Accent - a push button controller allowing for (4) user settable preset positions for each banner.• acouTroL Symphony - a more sophisticated controller with a touchscreen for larger installations allowing group operation of banners and multiple preset ‘looks’.
acouStac® banners ship fully assembled and tested.

3 I GLOSSARY acouStac®
acouStac® BannerA complete motorized system consisting of retracting fabric panel and machine.
BandFlat stainless steel bands attached to the lifting channel. Bands wrap on the drum in “yo-yo” fashion.
Band ClampDevice that secures a band to the lifting channel.
Bottom Weight3” (7.6cm) or 6” (15.2cm) rectangular tube at bottom of fabric panel fitted with plastic end caps.
ClipPlastic clip that is used to connect two rails. Available 3” (7.6cm) or 6” (15.2cm) deep.
ControllerA remote cabinet with push buttons, a touch screen, or other interface including a key on/off switch and emergency stop.
DrumYo-yo style drums spool bands to retract and deploy the fabric panel via the lifting channel.
EncoderDevice that is connected to shaft or motor to provide positioning feedback to the controller.
End CapsBlack or white plastic endcaps at trim frame and bottom weight.
Fabric StretchFabric may stretch after installation depending on degree of humidity control in facility.
Machine FrameHeavy duty aluminum frame with removable top and side polyvinyl infill panels.
Lifting ChannelLifting channel is connected to the bands.
Limit SwitchDevice used to stop machine at up or down position. Standard configuration is up, down, up over travel, down over travel.
MotorStandard is 208vac 3phase, 1/4 HP - 3/4 HP.
Fabric PanelTwo parallel surfaces, front & rear, form the fabric panel.
RailAluminum extrusion that holds the fabric segments.
SegmentFixed height fabric segments that make up the body of the panel. Standard sizes are nominal 11” (28cm) and 15” (38cm). The height is measured from stacker to stacker.
Segment, BottomSegment that is used at the bottom of a fabric panel. This piece connects the front and back fabric surfaces.
Segment, TopUppermost segment in a panel assembly, attaches to trim frame.
Segment, VariableVariable height segment that is added below the top segment to achieve the desired overall fabric panel height.
StackerConsists of two aluminum rails and a series of 3” (7.6cm) or 6” (15.2cm) deep plastic clips.
Trim FramePanel hangs from the trim frame; allows for fine adjustment.
Wool Serge (DFR)100% wool fabric. Durably Flame Retardant. Standard and custom colors are available. Fabric weight is 550 g/m2 (29oz). No nap.

Accredited by the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS ANDTECHNOLOGY, NATIONAL VOLUNTARY LAB ACCREDITATIONPROGRAM (Lab code 100404-0) FOR ACOUSTICAL TESTING SERVICES(selected test methods)
Laboratory Report No : 76-0056-01 Date: 4/18/2008
Specimen: Mock-up of a 3” and a 6” ACOUSTAC acoustic banner drapery specimeninside an enclosure.
Client Pook, Diemont & Ohl, Inc.701 E. 132nd Street / Bronx, NY, 10454
Test Type / Standard : Sound Absorption Coefficient by Reverberation Room Method (ASTM C423-07)
Objective: Obtain random-incidence absorption coefficient for specimen.
Description :
An acoustic mock-up using a drapery specimen described as “ACOUSTAC acoustic banner with 26 ounce wool serge” by the client was assembled inside IAC’s 10,000 cu.ft. reverberation room. The mock-up consisted of one12’x5’ ACOUSTAC curtain specimen provided by the client inside a 3/4” thick plywood enclosure with interiordimensions of 12’x5.04’x16” deep. The mock-up was mounted vertically on one of the reinforced steel walls of the reverberation room. The drapery specimen was hung 6” from the back wall of the plywood enclosure. The drapery specimen was hung from two ½” EMT conduit pipes at the top of the plywood enclosure.
Two drapery specimens of differing thicknesses were tested: one specimen was 3” thick; the other was 6” thick.Further design and construction details are the proprietary information of the client.
Clearances between the plywood enclosure and the reverberation room’s wall and floor were sealed with 2” wide duct tape and duct sealer (“plumber’s putty”). A visual inspection determined that the ACOUSTAC specimen consisted of a drapery made of two layers of fabric material, identified by the client as “26 oz. wool serge,” separated by 3” or 6” rigid plates about every 12” along the height of the specimen. Actual specimen dimensions were 12’x5’x3” and 12’x5’x6”. The specimen weight was 30.5 lbs for the 3” sample and 42.5 lbs for the 6” sample.
IAC’s reverberation chamber is of reinforced steel construction with a rectangular shape and an approximate volume of10,000 cu.ft. and total surface area of 3,000 sq.ft. Three 8’x4’ diffusers (both faces are reflective) are placed throughoutthe chamber for sound diffusion purposes. The sound field was sampled with a rotating microphone (60” radius) and abroadband “pink” noise signal.
Test results are listed in Table 1.

Remarks:
1. The measurements of absorption coefficients were made in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard C423-07. A description of the facilities and instrumentation is available from IAC upon request.
2. The following deviations were taken from the test procedure described in ASTMC423-07:a. Measurements were taken at frequencies below 100 Hz and above 5,000 Hz. Measurements below 100 Hz (and especially
at 50 Hz) fall outside the laboratory’s scope of accreditation and are provided here for information purposes only.3. The repeatability and reproducibility values for the ASTM C423-07 test method are listed in that standard’s Section 13 (Table
2).
