The Project
Why is this initiative necessary? The crea ve industries in Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago are considered highly significant in their contribu on to GDP and export earnings, employment, na on branding, cultural iden ‐ty, engagement of youth and women, and community devel‐opment. Notwithstanding, many prac oners face challenges which hinder their crea ve expression and limit their ability to sustain themselves financially. As a result, the full poten al of the crea ve industries is not yet harnessed in either country. This project is designed to address the priority needs of crea‐ve prac oners themselves, as iden fied during industry con‐
sulta ons led by VPAJ (2009 & 2012) and KEA (2011):
What does the project aim to achieve?
Increased produc on and diversity of marketable, export‐ready crea ve goods and services in Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago;
Enhanced exports of these crea ve products into designat‐ed target markets in the European Union and Caribbean;
Strengthened market‐readiness of par cipa ng crea ve professionals and enterprises as a result of the incuba on and accelera on programmes as well as market research;
Augmented capaci es of crea ve industry associa ons to provide ongoing support services to their members; and
Strong business networks amongst crea ve prac oners to promote market opportuni es.
Who will benefit?
‐ 150 crea ve prac oners in Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, drawn from industries such as the Literary arts; Drama c arts; Carnival arts; Dance; Visual arts; Anima on & Digital arts; Fash‐ion; and Music/Entertainment. ‐ 12‐15 industry associa ons for crea ve prac oners. ‐ The crea ve and tech communi es in general, through rele‐vant informa on, learning and networking events etc.
Addi onally, the diaspora communi es and Europeans who will be made aware of the richness and diversity of the con‐temporary crea ve landscape in these Caribbean countries.
What are the time frames and funding arrangements?
Running over 3 years (2014‐2017), the project has a budget of €672,399. Of this, €500,000 is being provided by the EU/ACP Secretariat as grant funding. The project’s consor um will raise the balance of €173,000 as counterpart contribu on (25.6% of total project cost).

Who will implement the project?
VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS JAMAICA ‐ Jamaica VPAJ, an NGO/social enterprise, seeks to enable crea ve & tech professionals develop the skills, knowledge and linkages necessary for their ventures to thrive. At present, it supports a community of > 10,000 profes‐sionals in the Caribbean drawn from: Dance; Design; Digital Media/Tech; Fashion; Film & TV; Music; Thea‐tre; Visual Arts; Wri ng & Publishing; and affiliated service providers. Focused on the markets, VPAJ offers an ac ve informa on service plus seminars, networking events, peer learning groups and public discussions. h p://www.vpaj.org
KEA EUROPEAN AFFAIRS ‐ Belgium KEA is a leading European consultancy specialised in culture and crea ve industries, providing strategic advice and technical assistance to businesses and the public sector since 1999. It has developed a wide network of crea ve operators within the EU, including companies, experts, associa ons, trade fairs, fes vals, event organizers, business networks etc. KEA has worked extensively in many countries around the world; and in 2013, opened a new office in the “City of Design” in Shenzhen, China. h p://www.keanet.eu
THE COMPETITIVENESS COMPANY ‐ Jamaica The Compe veness Company (TCC) was established in 2005 as an NGO affiliated with the Jamaica Exporters Associa on to create a centre of excellence in compe veness prac ce and project man‐agement. To date, it has conceived and executed major projects funded by behalf of USAID, the EU, the Jamaica Social Investment Fund, the Bill Gates Founda on and numerous others.

ARTHUR LOK JACK GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ‐ Trinidad The Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business (ALJGSB), an arm of the University of the West Indies (UWI), is a globally‐accredited training and research ins tu on established in Trinidad & Tobago in 1994. With some 50 faculty members and over 1,000 students, the ins tu on designs and executes ex‐ecu ve educa on in a range of business disciplines.
