ATHENSTHE CITY
Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece, Europe’s historical capital and one of the world’s oldest cities, with a record-ed history of over 3,400 years which makes it a landmark of early Western civilization.Athens is the city with the most glorious histo-ry in the world, a city worshipped by gods and people, a magical city. The enchanting capital of Greece has always been a birthplace for civiliza-tion as it is the city where democracy was born.
Acropolis, the most famous archaeolog-ical monument in Europe, admired by thousands of people is nominated to be one of the 7 wonders of modern world.
Athens is a city of different aspects, holding a distinct urban profile. A walk around the famous historic triangle (Plaka, Thission, Psyri), reveals the coexistence of different eras. Old mansions, Luxu-rious department stores and open markets, fancy restaurants and traditional taverns. Contempo-rary architecture developments can also be found in the city such as the Stavros Niarchos Founda-tion Cultural Centre, housing the National Opera and Park and the new National Library of Greece.
ACROPOLIS-PLAKA NEIGHBOURHOOD
It is considered the area that developed around the ancient Agora of Athens and is the oldest district in Athens, as it has been continuously inhabited for around three thou-sand years. Thus, it has a long history and has played an important part in Athenian life, with many famous people having walked along its streets, from Pericles and Alexan-der the Great to Lord Elgin and Lord Byron. It is without a doubt one of the most pic-turesque neighborhoods in Athens, with its narrow streets, lovely neoclassical buildings, small cafes, traditional tavernas, souvenir shops and ancient ruins in almost every cor-ner. This area is in the heart of the center of Athens, just under the Acropolis hill, yet has a totally different air than the rest of the city center, creating a feeling of nostalgia of the old Athens. Even though it is very commer-cial and popular with tourists, it is the ide-al place to enjoy a nice walk, as there are plenty of things to do and see, while stroll-ing around its small pedestrian streets.
If you want to go bar hopping or clubbing you will head to Psyrri, Monastiraki or Gka-zi. They are all nearby. However, what you can do in Plaka is head to Cine Paris, a lovely outdoors cinema, where the screen is on the roof with a stunning view to the Acropolis.
Though only a few columns remain of the Temple of Olympia Zeus it does not take much imagination to realize that this was one mon-ster of a building.
The building of the Temple of Olympian Zeus actually began in the 6th Century by Peisistratos. It’s a marvellous temple, the largest in Greece, and it’s smack in the centre of Athens. The temple is impressive for the sheer size of its 104 Co-rinthian columns (17m high with a base diameter of 1.7m), of which 15 remain – the fallen column was blown down in a gale in 1852. Hadrian had erected a giant gold and ivory status of Zeus inside the temple with an equally large one of himself next to it. Nothing remains of these statues. It is not known when the temple of Zeus was destroyed but it probably came down in an earthquake during the mediaeval period.
Nearby is the Arch of Hadrian which was erected in 132 AD as a gate be-tween the ancient city and the Roman city of Athens.

Hammam is one of the oldest cleans-ing and purification rituals world-wide. The experience of bathing care from the East purifies the body and soul. This ancient tradition inspired us to create the Polis Hammam, an Authentic Traditional Hammam at the center of Athens (Psirri) where you experience a mystic journey back in time while is adapted to all modern amenities. A ‘’dip’’ at our in-ner world and the lost values of life.

Located on the 7th floor of King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel, the Tudor Hall Restaurant features a unique neo-classical décor, unrivalled views of the Acropolis, Mod-ern Greek cuisine and signature cocktails.
A key element of differentiation is the use of fresh seasonal vegetables and raw ma-terials; the reason why the restaurant menu is being continuously updated, is the consistency with the seasonal produce.

Plaka is an old, quiet neighbour-hood, in the city of Athens, which lies on the Earth’s 38th parallel.
It is full of picturesque old hous-es, narrow lanes and steps which lead up to the hill, the holy rock of Acropolis. Mnisikleous street, is the name of the central steps, the name of the ancient ar-chitect Mnesikles, who flour-ished about 450 BC. This place is here - half way up - its name is Yiasemi - Jasmin - the name of the sweet smelling flower, whose white blossom shines even at midnight, as if to reflect the shining sea of the Aegean.
“Dear stranger and friend, when I only have one egg left in my pantry, it is the yolk I keep for you.”

The beloved 18th century tapestry of Alexander the Great is the focal point of the Alexander’s Bar, next to the Winter Garden Lounge. With its clubby atmosphere you will want to linger over a classic cocktail, a refined brandy or an exquisite cognac.
There are many reasons why the famous Alexan-der’s bar in Athens was voted as the Best Hotel Bar in the world by Forbes magazine, starting with its undeniably warm and relaxing atmosphere.

If a bar’s aim is to be a church to socialising and imbibing, The Clum-sies’ holy mission is very much complete. With three floors that draw in the crowds all day, The Clumsies has it all – from coffee to homely-but-re-fined Greek food to lead-

Located in the Kallithea district in the south of the Greek capital, the huge Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre creates new homes for the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, tucked beneath a new 170,000-square-metre sloping park and beside a 400-metre-long rectangular lake.
Italian architect Renzo Piano has finished a major new park, library and theatre com-plex in Athens, following one of the largest donations for a cultural building project in history
At ground level, the opera and the library are organised around a public plaza known as the agora – a ref-erence to the central gathering spaces in Ancient Greek cities.
Inside the library, huge walls of shelv-ing offer storage for its collection, which includes over 5,000 manuscripts, documents, re-cords and engrav-ings, dating back to the ninth century.
On the opposite side of the building, the opera house features two auditoriums. The first, containing 450 seats, will be used for “experimental per-formances”, while the grander 1,400-seat hall will host tradition-al operas and ballets.
