ACS LP SeriesMechanical-Bearing Rotary Stage

Aerotech’s ACS LP series rotary stages with integrated ERcollet chuck provides automated material handlingcapability for a wide range of materials and applications.

High Precision ER ColletThe collet chuck on the ACS-100LP accepts an ER8 seriescollet, while the ACS-150LP uses an ER25 collet and theACS-200LP uses an ER40 collet. These collets are readilyavailable from machine tool component suppliers in sizesthat support tube diameters from 0.5 mm to 30 mm. ERcollets provide excellent run-out characteristics forapplications requiring high-precision gripping of tubularmaterial. The collet is retained with a threaded retaining capthat enables quick changeover, and is configured in a “fail-safe” normally-closed mode where full clamping force isapplied when no air pressure is present.

Compact PackageThe design of the ACS LP series direct-drive rotary stagewas optimized to minimize stage height. The low profile ofthe stage reduces the effective working height of the systemminimizing “stack-up” related errors.

Integral Rotary UnionAir is delivered to the collet or gripper assembly through anintegral rotary union using a seal-less, frictionless design.This 100% noncontact rotary-union design ensures alifetime of maintenance-free operation. The combinationcollet chuck and rotary union assembly also hassignificantly less friction and inertia than external

assemblies created from discrete parts. This reduced inertiaimproves system performance by allowing higher peakacceleration and reducing position error during lasermachining operations.

Brushless Direct-DriveThe ACS LP series utilizes direct-drive brushless motortechnology to maximize positioning performance. Direct-drive technology is optimized for 24/7 productionenvironments because there are no brushes to replace andno gear trains or belts to maintain. Direct drive alsoprovides quicker acceleration and higher top speeds thangear or belt-driven mechanisms, which yields higher totaloverall throughput.

The lowmaintenance andhigh throughputcharacteristics ofthe ACS LP,coupled with theintegral materialhandlingcapability,provide thelowest total costof ownershipwhen comparedto component-level solutions.

ER collets provide excellent run-outcharacteristics for applications requir-ing high-precision gripping of tubularmaterial.
