Innovation Topic: Building synergies in FCH
between Automotive, Aerospace and Rail Systems
Conclusions:• Common fuel cell systems have been integrated in cars, buses, planes and trains in
early demonstrations
• Fuel cell stacks for cars do not meet the requirements for buses and neither meet the requirements for aircraft
• Fuel cells for trains can be based on fuel cells for buses, plus further optimization
• Fuel cell stacks for ground-based vehicles do not meet the requirements for aircraft
• Ultimately commercialized fuel cell power train systems for each sector– of course –will be purpose-designed and specifically highly optimized just as ICE’s today are
• Similar or same Fuel Cell sub-components and system architectures between auto, aero and rail power trains can be shared
