About Vitality Oxford Half Marathon 2016 Vitality Oxford Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 9 th October. Famed for its university and stunning architecture, the city of Oxford will once again open its streets to thousands of runners taking on this mighty challenge. Runners will experience Oxford’s most stunning sights on the 13.1 mile route, as the streets echo with thousands of cheering supporters. In addition there is also the Oxford Half Marathon Schools’ Challenge event which will begin at 9:20am, once the half marathon runners have set off, with local school children running a mile to complete their half marathon challenge Why Volunteer? EXPERIENCE We are now working to build a large team of volunteers who will play a crucial role in Vitality Oxford Half Marathon. They offer a smiley face and much encouragement to the runners, as well fulfilling crucial event- day roles and providing important details about the run to those taking part and spectating. Volunteering is a great way to join in as part of a large community event, to support family and friends who are running, and is also a great addition to your CV for the future. FREE RACE ENTRY As a thank you, all of our individual volunteers who take part are offered a free entry to one of our current events, which include: Vitality North London Half Marathon – Spring 2017 Vitality Run Hackney- Spring 2017 Vitality Oxford Half Marathon- Autumn 2017 You’re welcome to use the place yourself, pass onto a family member/friend to enjoy, or raffle off for charity. Vitality Oxford Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 9th October.

Famed for its university and stunning architecture, the city of Oxford will once again open its streets to thousands of runners taking on this mighty challenge. Runners will experience Oxford’s most stunning sights on the 13.1 mile route, as the streets echo with thousands of cheering supporters.

Course Based RolesCourse Marshal

- Course Marshals are there to direct runners along the route, making this the perfect role for those with a little running experience as you’ll know just what support our participants may need

- You will also direct spectators to ensure the roads remain clear for the runners- Being the course team’s ‘eyes and ears’ around the race route, you will provide information

back to the ‘event control’ room- Course marshals are NOT required to direct or manage traffic- Approximate number of volunteers required: 40 - 50

Sweep Cyclist

- As a Sweep Cyclists you will travel behind the last participant at the back of the race - You will keep in regular radio communication with the ‘event control’ room to update as to

the location of the last runner- Offering encouragement to those runners at the back is also important in this role- Approximate number of volunteers required: 5

Venue Based RolesRace Village Marshal:

- These marshals have key roles in supporting the participant facilities within the race village, including the Race Pack Queries Desk, Volunteer Reception, Stage, and ‘queue busting’ as needed

- Approximate number of volunteers required: 20

Start/Finish Marshal:

- You will be there to direct runners into the correct timing pen at the start of the race- Once the runners have all set off you will help clear the start/finish line ready for the Schools’

Challenge event- You will also help to put up and remove branding in the start/finish area, offer

encouragement to the runners as they finish and keep them moving through to the rewards area

- Approximate number of volunteers required: 15 - 20

Rewards Marshal:

- In this role you will help set up the rewards items (goody bags, medals etc.) and ensure an organised layout

- You will congratulate runners and offer encouragement whilst handing out rewards items as the runners move through the rewards area

- Approximate number of volunteers required: 30 - 40

Information/Arrivals Marshal:

- You will be central in welcoming runners to the event and directing them from the local stations and bus stops towards the race village

- Local knowledge is an advantage as you will be there to provide information on the local area

to runners and spectators (i.e., where the station or the nearest café is) - Approximate number of volunteer required: 15 – 20

CaptainsWe have introduced a brand new volunteering role called a Captain.

Captains will be in charge of leading a group of Race Makers and helping to coordinate an area within the Oxford Half Marathon

We will be looking for Captains in the following areas:

- Medal and Water Captain- Goody bag and T-Shirt Captain - Green Team Captain - Venue Captain

We will be asking Captains to take some ownership of their area both pre-race and on the day.

Being a Captain has some amazing benefits:

- A chance to take on more responsibility at the event - Be more involved with the event in the lead up to the B10K- A great addition to any CV - Enhance your leadership, communication and team building skills

Additional uniform is provided for all captains
