Features and Achievements

The ventilation system is what stands out as a feature of the building.

Three combined tactics for ventilation is used.

Heat is captured during the winter in an effort to save energy.

On the other hand during summer it is expelled.

Architectural speaking

Designers, consultants, maintenance staff, teachers, and community members participated in the design of the building.

An increase of 10% in the budget was made to meet the project’s goal.

The team chose materials that are durable and require less maintenance.

Materials and efficiency

Materials that have properties of longevity and durability where selected.

An example would be: Porcelain tile flooring was chosen for it is easier to clean.

Low VOC materials were used throughout the project.

Glass roof tops were used so that electricity is consumed less.

Thermal mass was also used to absorb heat during the day and releases it at night.

Project’s difficulties

The gym was found to be noisy due to the ventilation system and its placement.

Maintenance personnel reported that the grout between the ceramic tiles is difficult to clean.

Staff and occupants were observed to see how they interact with the building, and afterwards taught how to use things like the mechanical ventilation.
